Picture book review : Fairies of Blossom Bakery : Cookie and the Secret Sleepover - Mandy Archer & Kirsteen Harris-Jones

Last week, we discovered the lovely picture book Plum and the Winter Ball from the Fairies of Blossom Bakery series and continued the fun at the weekend by making the upside down plum pudding using the recipe at the end of the book. (Click through to see how we got on.) Well, Juliette excitedly grabbed another book from the collection, Cookie and the Secret Sleepover, at bedtime that night and we discovered another fun tale of baking, friendships and girlie dilemmas.

In this book, Cookie wants to invite her special friend to a secret sleepover, with a little extra baking thrown in for good measure. The problem is, when her other friends invite her over to their house, she doesn't know how to say no but doesn't want them to know about her secret sleepover in case they are offended that they weren't invited. We loved this book just as much as the first one, for the lovely illustrations, the appealing fairies and the helpful life lessons about true friendships.

But the other thing we all love is the fab recipe at the end of the book, allowing little readers to make up one of the sweet treats from the story.

This time, it was for Mini Chocolate Dipped Hearts.

The Madhouse Mini-testers had great fun making them ... and eating them ! It's great to take the story out of the book and bring it into real life.
