Picture book review : The Pet Itch - Elli Woollard and Elina Ellis

When I pulled out the latest book that we were sent to review, The Pet Itch by Elli Woollard and Elina Ellis, Pierre and Juliette were already giggling before we'd even turned to the first page because they loved the picture on the cover.

The hilarity ensued as we discovered the story of Mossy the Monster who is desperate to get a pet - preferably a pet itch - and, along with his sister, has to double bluff his parents who really don't want him to get one. The mischievous pair manage to tie the grown-ups up in knots and get exactly what they want, much to the Madhouse Mini-testers' delight !

The illustrations were another source of entertainment - Pierre was in fits of giggles as he pointed out the poo in some pictures ! The story is written in rhyme so it's great fun to read out loud at bedtime. Everybody's favourite line was :
"Pets," said his aunty, "are nasty and smelly."
"Pets," said his sister, "will wee on the telly."

A line like that is irresistibly naughty to a 4-year-old and an 8-year-old so this book has become another instant favourite !
