The Collective Limited Edition Blood(y) Orange Live Gourmet Yogurt review

The Collective recently got in touch to ask if we'd like to try out their limted edition Blood(y) Orange flavour yogurt. Having been totally wowed by their Christmas Pud yogurt last Christmas, I jumped at the chance and, a few days later, went off to the supermarket clutching my vouchers. It took two failed trips (to ASDA and Tesco's) before I actually managed to find any The Collective yogurts at all but in the end, my perseverance paid off and I found some at Sainsbury's.

The Collective yogurts are beautifully thick and creamy with the perfect combination of slightly tart yogurt and syrupy sweet topping so I couldn't wait to see what we'd think of the blood orange flavour.

It lived up to my high expectations and delivered a sweet, refreshing and indulgent treat that made the perfect dessert to finish off a meal but was equally good as a mid-afternoon snack if I got the munchies. The only problem is, it's so nice that it's far too easy to scoff most of the tub in one sitting ! That's bad news for my diet because 100g contains 134 calories, 17g of sugar and 5g of fat (of which 3.1g saturates) and the whole tub is 500g - eek !

Once we managed to find some The Collective yogurts in stock, we actually found quite a few flavours so I decided to sample them all. Next up was Passion fruit.

We loved the sweet zinginess of the sauce and the slight crunch of the seeds that complemented the creamy yogurt beautifully.

Mighty Mango was another hit, although I didn't actually get to try this one because it disappeared before I got a look in. I think that says it all though !

The final offering - Russian Fudge - was very sweet and moreish, even appealing to those of the Madhouse Mini-testers who usually turn up their noses at "grown-up" yogurts and prefer ultra-sweet chocolatey or fruity mousse-type desserts. This is a great alternative to ice cream and can be eaten on its own or as a totally yummy drizzle over desserts such as apple pie.

There's good news for those who need a "free from" diet : The Collective yogurts are gluten-free and suitable for vegetarians. They're British-made and handcrafted, using the finest West Country milk. They also contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives so you'll need to polish off the tub within 3 days of opening. Strangely enough, that never seems to be a problem though !
