Teen read book review : The Taming of the Tights - Louise Rennison

The Taming of the Tights, the third book in Louise Rennison's The Misadventures of Tallulah Casey series, will be out in paperback in the New Year.

After reading it, I tried to think of a way of summarising it that would retain the originality and humour. I failed miserably, so here's the official blurb : "The tights run wild and free in this hilarious new novel from the Queen of Comedy! Tallulah Casey is putting all thoughts of wild boy Cain behind her. He is literally an animal in trousers… oo-er. Not like nice boy Charlie (who she’s totally not thinking about either). The Tree Sisters are chasing those golden slippers of applause at performing arts college but Dr Lightowler seems hell-bent on spoiling everything for Tallulah. And with all her mates loved up, can Tallulah resist the call of her wild boy?"

Essentially, it's a classic tale of teenage angst, girlie mates and first boyfriends. What sets this out from the crowd is the lovable but totally loopy central character Lulah and her band of merry would-be actresses, The Tree Sisters (not to mention her out-of-control legs).

Louise Rennison won the Roald Dahl Funny Prize, as well as the Nestle Smarties Book Prize and the Michael L. Printz Honor Book Prize, with Withering Tights - the first in the Tallulah Casey series. She is also the bestselling award-winning author of the phenomenally successful ‘Confessions of Georgia Nicolson’ series, translated into over 34 languages and to the stage and big screen as ‘Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging’. Globally, she has sold over 5 million copies of her books.

Now aged twelve and a half and well on the way to being a teen, Sophie has been looking for a new slightly more grown-up author to replace her beloved  Jacqueline Wilson - I think Louise Rennison could be just what she's looking for.

I'll be back in a second with a giveaway where you can win a copy of The Taming of the Tights so don't go away !

  1. My daughters are big fans of Jacqueline Wilson too, so I know that they would enjoy this too. They've not read anything from Louise Rennison before, but we'll be giving it a go after reading your review.
