The Very Hungry Caterpillar Gift Ideas

As I told you last month, in honour of The Very Hungry Caterpillar's 45th anniversary in 2014, we're delighted to have been picked as Official Very Hungry Caterpillar bloggers. Every month, we get some lovely merchandise to share with you - last month, I showed you the gorgeous Portmeiron porcelain cup, plate and bowl set and the wipe-clean tabard (which has been used non stop for cookery and crafts). This month, there are some lovely last minute gift ideas for the whole family. (Can you believe there's only a week to go until Christmas ?!)

First up was the 2014 Family Calendar. This has lots of lovely colourful pictures featuring the original illustrations and plenty of room to write in for up to five family members, so it's perfect for us.

But what we loved most of all was the extra additions of the rewards section and sticker sheet. Writing agreed targets on the calendar is a great way to keep the kids on track and make sure those New Year's Resolutions last longer than a few weeks ! (RRP £9.99, available from Calendar Club)

The next item looks great fun but you'll have to wait until next month for me to tell you about it properly because it's gone in the Christmas stocking ! The Make & Play Masks kit contains everything you need to create a caterpillar and a butterfly mask - 24 foam pieces, elastic and glue. It costs £6.99 and is available from John Lewis, Argos and Tesco. I think this will be perfect for keeping the kids entertained on Boxing Day when the grown-ups want some peace and quiet !

The other two products are perfect for the school run. There is a very funky toddler-sized backpack (RRP £10, available at Mothercare, Jo Jo Maman Baby and Amazon) which Pierre loves because you can tweak the antennae on the pocket !

The dome umbrella has been put out of the way for now because the only days that it has been raining were during the gale force winds of last month's storm so I was worried it would get broken ! I did put it up in the house though (remembering my nan telling me that it was bad luck - oops !) and loved the kid-friendly design features, including little green balls to protect the ends of the spokes, alternate see-through panels so kids can see where they are walking and a simple push-pull mechanism for putting it up and down so that little fingers won't get hurt with the usual lever. It has a RRP of £9 and is available at Mothercare, Jo Jo Maman Baby and Amazon.

If you need any last minute Christmas gifts or stocking fillers, these will go down well with any Very Hungry Caterpillar fans.
