Picture book review : Go To Sleep or I Let Loose the Leopard - Steve Cole

We have a new favourite bedtime read at The Madhouse : Go To Sleep or I Let Loose the Leopard by Steve Cole, famous for his Cows In Action and Astrosaurs books, with illustrations by Bruce Ingman.

The book tells the tale of two over-excited children, Joe and Ellie, who are driving their new babysitter to distraction by refusing to go to bed. The Madhouse Mini-testers had a good giggle at their make-believe games.

But they're not the only ones with a vivid imagination. The babysitter also has a few tricks up her sleeve, threatening all sorts of scary monsters and creations that will come and get them if they don't go to bed. The boisterous pair don't care though - they have a cheeky answer to everything.

Until she lets loose the leopard, which does the trick ! The Madhouse Mini-testers loved the rhyming part and have soon picked it up so they can read it along with me - "you wouldn't have, you couldn't have, I probably shouldn't have ... but I did !"

We all smiled at the clever babysitter and her ploy to get the kids in bed ... then had a giggle when we turned the page and saw the very real creatures trudging dejectedly down the path because they weren't needed !

It's a lovely book that is great fun to read aloud and it has also started a new game at The Madhouse for Pierre's bedtime - if he doesn't want to go to sleep (or just pretends), Sophie puts on her new wolf onesie and crawls along the floor to his room when I say "Go To Sleep or I Let Loose the Wolf" ! Giggles guaranteed !
