a2 milk review

Although nobody at The Madhouse is dairy-intolerant, we've had the opportunity of trying out various milk alternatives in the past, such as rice milk, almond milk and soya milk. When a2 milk got in touch, I was intrigued to hear that their product is a different option - it's proper natural cows' milk from British cows, but it comes from specially-selected cows whose milk is naturally free from a protein called A1 – a protein that can lead to digestive discomfort for many people when consumed. It launched this time last year and has received rave reviews from many people who have been able to reintroduce milk to their diets. If you're lactose-intolerant, you still won't be able to drink it, but some people are diagnosed as lactose-intolerant when in fact it is just the A1 protein causing them problems.

We received some vouchers to give it a try and picked some up in Tesco's. (It's available in large Tesco's and Waitrose stores at the moment, as well as all Morrisons, Booths and Budgens stores.) Well, the packaging looks just the same as regular milk, so much so that everyone at The Madhouse was taking it out of the fridge and using it for their cereal and making hot chocolate and nobody noticed the difference. I think that says everything you need to know for the taste !

Comfortwise, I can't comment, as we don't have issues with regular cows' milk, but if you do have problems digesting it, it's definitely worth a try. It can be used just the same as normal milk - hot or cold, in custard, porridge, cheese sauce or smoothies - and comes in whole or semi-skimmed varieties.
