Madhouse Recipe : Simple Slow-Cooker Pork

I decided to do something a bit different to the usual roast dinner this week and the result was this slow-cooked pork with mushrooms and onions in gravy. Very simple and very tasty.

In December's Degustabox (you've got a few hours left to win next month's Degustabox in my giveaway here !), I had a selection of Bisto Chef's Specials gravy sachets so I decided to use one of those in the slow cooker. There wasn't one for pork so I used Chicken Gravy with Sage & Onion which worked really well.

Simple Slow-Cooker Pork

serves 6 with leftovers

ingredients :

800g stewing pork
2 large onions
6 mushrooms
a sachet of Bisto Chicken Gravy with Sage & Onion
seasoning of your choice : I used onion salt and Oxo Garlic & Herb Shake & Flavour

I like to brown my meat in a frying pan before putting in the slow cooker to give it some nice colour and seal in the juices, but you can leave this step out of you want. I liberally sprinkled the meat with onion salt and Oxo Garlic & Herb Shake & Flavour (also from December's Degustabox) but you could use any seasoning you like.

Mix up the gravy sachet with water as instructed. (I used cold water rather than boiling water as it was going in the slow cooker.)

Quickly fry some onions and mushrooms in the pan juices  until they are slightly caramelised.

Transfer everything to the slow cooker and cook on high for 3 hours.

I served this with Dauphinoise Potatoes but it would also go very well with rice, vegetables or mash.
