Weekend Box review

I'm sure you've seen all the different subscription options out there for beauty boxes and foodie boxes, but how about a box packed with fun activities to keep the kids amused? That's what The Weekend Box offers. Each pack contains everything you need for four activities, one from each of the following categories:

Something to Cook
Something to Make
Something to Explore and
Something Green

Each activity is designed to build sensory exploration skills within little ones aged 3-8, as well as help teach them about different life skills in a fun and engaging way.

We excitedly unpacked our kit and discovered that we'd be making a bird feeder, a sand art picture, some 3D glasses and some jacket potato boats. You also get little extras like reward stickers and a certificate inside the box packaging to say you've completed all the activities.

4-year-old Pierre immediately chose the sand art activity to begin with. I love the fact that each activity has everything you need wrapped up in a separate pack so for the glue, for example, you get a little sachet of glue within each pack rather than one shared bottle. This made it easier to keep track of several kids getting involved at once !

He was very proud of his two pictures, even if they're not as precise as the sand art kits that you buy with precut adhesive paper to peel off a piece at a time. The little colouring book can also be used with the remaining sand.

9-year-old Juliette opted for the 3d glasses activity which involved colouring and cutting out using the templates then sticking on the two difference coloured plastic squares and investigating the enclosed 3d images.

We needed to use a bit of sellotape to strengthen them but she was very proud of her finished glasses.

It may target 3-8 year olds but big sister Sophie, aged 12, couldn't resist getting involved too !

The bird feeder activity was a great way for getting Pierre and Juliette to work together and they managed all by themselves, with very little input from me at all.

Again, the Madhouse Mini-testers were extremely proud of their finished work.

I love the fact that they've thought of everything, even adding the bird seed that you need to feed the birds. We put our bird feeder out on the balcony so that we can see the birds if they come down and use it.

We still have the cookery activity to do, and we have a recipe and secret seasoning mix for making fun baked potato boats.

Our Weekend Box kept three kids busy for a whole morning so it would definitely keep one child entertained for a weekend. I love that fact that 100% of the contents are reusable or recyclable and 95% come from recycled material.

Weekend Box send out kits every fortnight or every month, it's up to you, and you can subscribe for 3, 6 or 12 months. Each box costs £7.50, but when you sign up, if you use code MADHOUSE, you will get your first box for just £3.75 (including free delivery).
