Two of Denmark's biggest exports (in my humble opinion) must be Danish Butter Cookies and Scandi-crime fiction, which is rather apt as they are both neatly combined in Midsomer Murders 100th episode ! As well as being Britain’s most popular crime drama, Midsomer Murders is also apparently Denmark’s most popular imported show, so when it came to filming its 100th episode, Copenhagen was the perfect location.
You may have already seen this milestone episode which aired on ITV in February, but if you missed it, it will also be released next week (on 7th April) as a two-disc set, including the feature-length episode and also a full-length making of.
In this episode, Barnaby and Nelson travel to Denmark to join forces with the Copenhagen cops to investigate the death of a Midsomer biscuit company boss on business in the Danish capital. I read a lot of crime fiction and watch a lot of detective series but death by butter cookies was a new one on me ! Foul play, secrets and lies are all uncovered, along with enough suspects and motives to keep you guessing right up until the end. Somehow it all seems to remain almost light-hearted though (I can't even say death-by-cookies without smirking !) and it all ends on a high note with the birth of Barnaby's child back in Midsomer. All together now - awww !
