9 Bar Breakfast review

9 Bar recently sent me through some of their new Breakfast bars to try out. We all know we shouldn't skip breakfast but sometimes, there just isn't enough time to get everything done before I head off to the bus stop so grabbing a breakfast bar and a piece of fruit is always a convenient option. 9 Bar are well known as healthy snacking experts so I was keen to see what I'd think.

There are four flavours in the Breakfast range, all packed with nutritious seeds, chewy oats, puffed brown rice and protein-packed soya crispies. You have the choice between :

Almond & Raspberry - as well as giving the bar a lovely sharp sweetness, the raspberries provide vitamin C, perfectly complementing the "brain food" qualities of the almonds. It's a really filling bar, containing 9g of protein and 232 calories.

Cashew & Cocoa - It feels very naughty picking up a chocolate-flavoured bar for breakfast but the 9 Bar version is relatively guilt-free. Cashews promote healthy digestion and are a great natural energy source, as well as giving it a great nutty taste and texture, whilst the cocoa powder adds a hint of sweetness. This one also contains 9g of protein and comes in at 235 calories.

Apricot & Strawberry - This one is my favourite. Succulent apricot pieces provide vitamin A and potassium which helps keep your muscles in tip top shape, whilst strawberries keep bones healthy, hair shiny and nails strong. Above all, it tastes great with a gorgeous fruity flavour and a satisfying gooey, chewy texture. It contains 226 calories, 9g of protein and less than 3g of saturated fat per bar.

Peanut & Raisin - I love the way 9 Bar highlights all the health benefits of the various ingredients, making you feel good about what you're eating. I didn't know that raisins contain Vitamin B to ease stress and peanuts boost serotonin levels and keep our mood up. With 232 calories and 9g of protein, this bar promises to banish morning blues for good and keep you going til lunch - even if it doesn't, it tastes fab !

All varieties are available in 50g singles for 90p per bar. Given how filling and packed with nuts, seeds and grains they are, I think that's quite good value. I also love the fact that they are handmade in a craft bakery in North Wales.

star rating : 4.5/5
