DVD review : Sir David Attenborough's Natural History Museum Alive

Dinosaurs are big business at the moment - just over the past couple of weeks, we've reviewed the Dinosaur Roar! app, released in conjunction with the 20th anniversary edition of the book of the same name, and the Walking with Dinosaurs - The Movie DVD. Last week saw the release of Natural History Museum Alive on DVD, Blu Ray and Blu Ray 3D and we were delighted to receive a copy to review.

The basic premise is very similar to the Night At The Museum film starring Ben Stiller as a night watchman at the American Natural History Museum who discovers that the artifacts come to life at night when all the visitors have gone home. Exit Ben Stiller, enter the one and only Sir David Attenborough.

The film uses amazing photorealistic CGI and cutting-edge science to bring the exhibits of London's Natural History Museum to life with very impressive results. Sir David Attenborough was the perfect person to get involved in the project - somehow his voice just goes with nature documentaries ! - and his enthusiasm is contagious. I love the way he moves away from the slightly stuffy, serious persona that we're all used to and joins in the fun, hiding from the curator and revealing a more childish, fun side to his personality. It's not just entertaining though, it's also highly educational, as the dinosaurs, ice age beasts, monstrous apes and giant reptiles are brought to (virtual) life using scientific clues as to how they looked and behaved.

This spectacular film for all the family marks a unique collaboration between the museum’s experts and the BAFTA winning team behind Flying Monsters 3D with David Attenborough and Galapagos 3D with David Attenborough. The result is truly magical - dinosaur fans will be in their element but anyone who has ever watched and enjoyed a wildlife documentary will be blown away by the realism of the computer wizardry.

Fancy checking it out for yourselves? Don't go away - I have a giveaway coming right up where you can win 3 DVDs of the film.
