Picture book review : Hocus Pocus Diplodocus - Steve Howson & Kate Daubney

Maverick recently sent us through a couple of new picture books to review, the first of which was Hocus Pocus Diplodocus by Steve Howson & Kate Daubney.

As the first page informs us, Hocus Pocus Diplodocus was the world's first-ever magician.

Pierre was instantly drawn in by the huge double-paged illustrations that are really vibrantly coloured .

But the book is also a good introduction to the proper names of different types of dinosaurs.

Pierre's favourites were the pterodactyls - even Juliette was intrigued because apparently she'd never thought about flying dinosaurs.

Pierre's favourite part is when a fly goes up Hocus Pocus Diplodocus's nose and makes him sneeze. Unfortunately, whenever he sneezes, he makes things disappear by accident and they reappear in some distant place... on this occasion, he displaces the entire population of dinosaurs to a distant planet. Well, that's definitely a new take on how the dinosaurs became extinct ! Seeing the dinosaurs looking down on Planet Earth at the end made us smile too.

It's a fun read that young children of both sexes will enjoy.
