“Bee Happy” and win wildflower prizes

The Happy Egg Co. have launched special limited edition “Bee Happy” egg cartons, complete with distinctive black bee stripes, to highlight an initiative by the ethical egg brand to benefit Britain’s bees by planting 100 acres of wildflower meadows on some of its farms.

To mark the launch, you can win prizes by designing your own wildflower meadow. The Happy Egg Co. is inviting people to photograph and upload their wildflower drawings to a gallery at www.beehappyegg.co.uk to be automatically entered into a competition to win a wildflower garden worth £5,000 for their local community or school. Runners up will receive special Bee Happy drawing packs.

If you're not feeling artistic, you can also win prizes (including wildflower seed packs for your garden, bee happy tea towels, and activity books) every day by  voting for your favourite meadow.

Last year the happy egg co. pledged to plant more than 80 acres of wildflower meadows across many of its farms. The meadows bring health and welfare benefits to the happy egg hens by giving them additional ground-cover to shelter under and explore, as well as providing a variety of natural feed options, enriching their quality of life. A major advantage of the planting is that it adds to the biodiversity on and around the farms by increasing the number of pollen rich species, helping to attract bees and other insects.

Rob Newell, Head of Brand Marketing at the happy egg co. said: "We know that British bees are in trouble so it feels good to be able to do our bit to help them. By planting meadows at our farms we’re enriching the lives of our hens but we’re also giving bees the chance to flourish in the right habitat. It’s an initiative that benefits both the birds and the bees and one we’re really pleased to be able to extend by offering one local community the chance to win their own wildflower meadow. We’d urge as many people as possible to pick up a pack next time they are in store and get drawing.”

The wildflower garden designs will be judged by the happy egg co. Producers’ Guild. “Bee Happy” packs will be available from Tesco, Morrisons, Asda, Sainsbury's and Co-op.
