Globe-cooking recipe : Chocolate Brigadeiros (Brazil)

Brigadeiros are basically Brazilian chocolate truffles and they are so quick and simple, not to mention delicious, that we'll definitely be making them again. Here's the recipe from my Brazilian-themed Kitchen trotter box.

Chocolate Brigadeiros

ingredients :

1 tin of condensed milk
8 tbsp cocoa powder
25g of butter
50g of chocolate sprinkles

I didn't have a tin of condensed milk but I did have 3/4 of a jar of "confiture de lait" (dulce de leche) lurking in the fridge.

A quick check of the ingredients list revealed that the main ingredient is ... ta-dah ! ... condensed milk. Perfect ! I put the contents of the jar in a saucepan with the butter and stirred it over a low heat until it all melted and combined, then stirred in the cocoa powder. I actually added double the quantity of cocoa powder to make sure it went nice and thick, then put it in the fridge to chill overnight.

Pierre wandered into the kitchen asking for a job so he was put on truffle-rolling duty !

The Brigadeiros in the picture on the recipe card used brown chocolate sprinkles but the kids wanted brightly coloured hundreds and thousands. (More supplies from our Cake Angels stash !) I figured it was in-keeping with the Brazilian theme because it looked like the colours of the Rio carnival !

Pierre loved rolling them around until they were totally covered in sprinkles. He then sat down and licked the spoon, bowl and his hands clean while I popped the Brigadeiros in the fridge to chill and firm up.

They taste as good as they look !

  2. Very tempted to make some too. They are on my wish list for sure, I have seen a couple of recipes online, but yours are so cheerful and carnivalesque
