Utterly Horses Breyer My Dream Horse Painting kit review

What little girl (and quite possibly boy too) hasn't dreamed of owning a pony at some stage? With this in mind, I was keen to see what we'd receive when Utterly Horses got in touch during the holidays and asked if we'd like to review something from their range. There were squeals of delight when this Breyer My Dream Horse 3D painting kit arrived.

Sophie giggled when she unpacked it because she said it looked like a horse mummy in its protective packaging ! This did mean that it arrived in perfect condition though.

It shows great attention to detail - just look at the mane and the tail, where you can almost sense the wind whipping through it, and the muscle definition on the body, which somehow suggests movement. I was very impressed with how lifelook it looks.

As well as the resin model, you get a painting guide, a paintbrush and a selection of paints to bring your model to life.

We were out and about so much over the summer that this has ended up being an ongoing project. The fact that it is a paint-by-numbers kit means that you can easily pick up where you left off without having to worry about matching colours and remembering which section you were working on. Sophie's been having a great time with it so it would certainly appeal to a teen or even an adult, although younger children could also have a go - they just wouldn't get such a precise finish.

This horse has the patterns etched on to it (and the colour guide) to recreate an Appaloosa, but if your "Dream Horse" is something else, there are other kits in the same range.

If you head over to their website, they currently have a competition to win a fabulous horse and stable set.
