#VHC45 - Very Hungry Caterpillar or Very Happy Children ? (review)

You may remember earlier in the year, we reviewed lots of lovely Very Hungry Caterpillar products to celebrate the very special 45th anniversary of the book this year. We were delighted to receive a big bundle of brand new VHC-themed products a few weeks ago. The Madhouse Mini-testers got straight down to trying them all out !

Pierre immediately took possession of the cute, melamine, partitioned plate. (RRP £7.95, available at John Lewis)

He absolutely had to have his dinner in it the day it arrived and has been regularly requesting it ever since. It would be a great way of getting fussy toddlers to try new foods because you can put a small amount of various unknown or unloved foods in the separate compartments without "polluting" the bits they know they like ! It's great for snacks too, if you want to put juicy fruit alongside a biscuit or cake without making them go soggy.

After all that eating, it was time for Pierre to brush his teeth, which he did with great enthusiasm, thanks to the funky VHC toothbrush (RRP £3.50, available at Fenwicks and Waitrose). Pierre loves the red bristles !

While in the bathroom, we tried out the VHC Hand Soap (RRP £3.50, available at Fenwicks and Waitrose) and I popped the VHC Bubble Bath on the side of the bath for later (RRP £3.50, also available  at Fenwicks and Waitrose).

Juliette loved the fruity shapes of the Very Hungry Caterpillar Strawberry Shaped Chalkers (RRP £9.95, available at John Lewis).

The Madhouse kids love doing chalk drawings out on the pavement outside the house or on the garage floor so these will be getting a good workout over the half term break.

Juliette was in the mood for some crafty/messy play now so she was excited to spot the Very Hungry Caterpillar Stamper Kit (RRP £9.95, available at John Lewis).

You get lots of interesting pictures to use, including various stages of caterpillar growth, food and the sun, as well as red and green ink pads. Both Pierre and Juliette had great fun coming up with caterpillar-themed scenes.

As we waited for the ink to dry, we went to investigate what else was in the box. Pierre asked if he could have the Drinks Bottle (RRP £7.99, available at amazon) and now proudly takes it to school filled with water. All his friends have been very impressed and asked him where he got it apparently.

We all know the classic version of the book off by heart but Pierre loved rediscovering the caterpillar in this squishy VHC Cloth Book (RRP £10.99, available at amazon and all good book shops). It's a great introduction to the lovable character for babies who could happily cuddle or chew on the book without damaging it or hurting their mouths.

We also discovered another twist on the classic book format - a pull-out pop-up book (RRP £5.99, available at amazon and all good book shops) which Pierre thought was very impressive and took in to school to show his teacher.

The final item in the box was a pack of brightly coloured Peel & Stick Wall Art stickers (RRP £8, available at John Lewis and amazon), which would be great for decorating a nursey or a child's bedroom.

We've all been really impressed with the wide range of products that have been released throughout the year as part of the VHC45 celebrations. If you're already looking for stocking fillers and Christmas gift ideas, the collection is a great place to start because it has something for everyone and all budgets.

Disclosure : We received the products in order to write an honest review.
