Edition Edelweiss skincare review

OK, I have a question for all you hard-working mums out there - when was the last time you thoroughly pampered yourselves and had a facial? I can already hear the cries of "As if ! When would I have time for that?" or "With the kids in tow? Not likely!" and I totally agree with you. Which is why I got even more excited when I was given the chance to trial the Starter Beauty Set from Siin's Edition Edelweiss, because, right from the first time I used it, it gave me the impression I'd just had a really lavish facial.

This was the first time I'd tried any beauty products containing edelweiss, a flower that holds special memories for me because I remember seeing many of them growing in the Tyrolean mountains when I went there on holiday as a child. I remember thinking they look quite strange - the furry white hairs make them look as if they have been made out of felt ! - and being appreciative of their hardiness in such a harsh climate. I can't do a review of a product containing edelweiss extracts without giving a nod to The Sound of Music, can I ?! "Edelweiss, Edelweiss, Every morning you greet me, Small and white, clean and bright, You look happy to meet me ...!"

I apologise for making you hum that for the rest of the day, but the lyrics are quite apt actually. The tubes are quite small and white, they give me clean and bright skin and they greet me every morning on the bathroom shelf ! I received the Travel Beauty Set which contains Edition Edelweiss 30ml Milky Cleanser and 30ml 24h Essence Cream. My first impression on investigating on the website was that it all sounds fabulous : " Edition Edelweiss harnesses the power of over 40 unique active ingredients found naturally in the Edelweiss plant in a high dosage siin complex of precious active ingredients. These ingredients have an antibacterial effect, are high in antioxidants and reduce harmful free radicals. The flavonoids and tannins in Edelweiss promote skin tightening, stimulate blood circulation and encourage cell renewal. Edelweiss is a rare and protected flower and the plants used for Edition Edelweiss are grown in controlled organic farming plantations. The unique variety used here is patented and sustainable. The products use a specialist siin Liposome delivery system to transport the active ingredients directly into the skin where they can be immediately absorbed. The potent elixir is encapsulated and taken deep into the dermal layers of the skin to be released where they take full effect working from within."

I started off with the Milky Cleanser which comes out as a transparent gel. A little goes a long way so the tube will last for ages. Dampen your face and hands, squeeze out a little blob then rub over your face and neck. It turns into a milky, creamy liquid that doesn't feel at all harsh or astringent. In fact, it felt so nice on my skin that I thought it couldn't be doing all that much, as most of my really effective cleansers always make my skin tingle and feel tight and in need of moisturising. How wrong was I?! As I rinsed off my face and patted it dry, I couldn't believe how good my skin felt - really clean and fresh but not at all dried out or tight. I'm in my 40's now so I don't get that fresh-faced, perfectly smooth skin and rosy glow so easily but just one quick use of the Milky Cleanser had me feeling like I was back in my teens and had just washed my face in some pure alpine dew ! I'm not sure why it's so good - I can only assume it's the magic blend of energised Alpine spring water, deep-cleansing Edelweiss extract, vitamin-rich Goji fruit (which provides vitamins C, A (Retinol) and B) and extract of Ginseng root to strengthen and protect your skin.

The perfect follow-up is the 24h Essence Cream, which promises to brighten and revive tired, dull skin with its deeply moisturising ingredients to highlight your skin's natural luminescence. The first thing that stunned me was how it was instantly and completely absorbed by my skin - it just drank it all up, leaving absolutely no dampness or greasiness. Then I looked in the mirror and was very impressed - the fine lines on my forehead had pretty much disappeared, just like when I use a skin plumping product. The cream left absolutely no residue but I could definitely feel the moisturising effects lingering. My skin felt smoother and all feelings of tightness or dryness had completely disappeared. I've only had a facial once in my life but after using the Edition Edelweiss products, my skin felt exactly the way I did when I walked out of the salon - thoroughly pampered inside and out !

Now, there is a downside. It's not cheap - the travel set that I received to review costs £52.90 and the complete beauty set (containing 100ml Milky Cleansing, 100ml Spring Tonic, 30ml Intense Serum, 15ml Intense Eye Cream and 100ml 24h Essence cream) will set you back £200-300, depending on how mature your skin is. I know, I know ! But Christmas is on the way so how about putting yourself first for once? Think about how much you'll be spending on the kids !

Siin also offer a Money Back Guarantee, promising to refund your money if you don't love Edelweiss. I bet they don't have to reimburse many people ! You should definitely make sure you follow them on their social media channels too, in the hope that they may have some giveaways in the not too distant future !
