Drinking is believing ! Naturelly Jelly Juice review

When I first heard about Naturelly Jelly Juice, I have to admit, I wasn't sure. The Madhouse kids love juice and they love jelly but how would drinking jelly work ? And what exactly is hiding in that wibbly wobbly fruity pouch?

Well, we soon got to find out because they sent us through a very generous delivery to put it to the test. On their website, they explain : "Naturelly is a naturally flavoured jelly juice drink made with scrumptilicious fruit juice and a special gelatine free wibbly jelly. This jelly juice is suitable for vegetarians and it naturally fills up little tummies for a little longer and helps stop those cravings for sugary snacks. Also as it's a jelly it doesn’t spill. Yay!" It contains Gellan Gum which is is a dietary fibre which is suitable for vegetarians and people with religious dietary practices (Kosher/Halal). Another huge bonus is that, as it is made using real fruit, each pouch counts towards your five-a-day.

I explained the concept then handed over a pouch to each of the kids. They looked a bit dubious and Juliette said it felt funny in her mouth and she wasn't keen. Then she had a bit more and said "actually it's quite nice". From then on, there was no stopping them and both Pierre and Juliette asked for a pouch at least twice a day until they were all gone ! Whether they were hungry, thirsty or looking for a sweet treat, the Naturelly Jelly Juice seemed to fit the bill. I wouldn't normally want them to have sweet drinks on a daily basis but I must admit that knowing they count towards their 5-a-day, cover 100% of their vitamin C intake and have no added sugar, I tended to offer them as I would a piece of fruit rather than a sugary drink.

The kids loved the flavour and the handy pouch format that meant that we could take them out and about with us in my handbag or their coat pockets. The jelly does seem to fill them up if they're asking for sweets or biscuits and is definitely a healthier option than most kiddie snacks.

We tried the Totally Tropical flavour but they are also available in Summer Fruits and Apple varieties. They target "naturelly curious kids" up to about age 9 and this seems to be spot on - while 5-year-old Pierre and 9-year-old Juliette are huge fans, 14-year-old Sophie doesn't like the texture.
