Flirty Shades of Surf review

In just a few weeks' time, I'm sure the whole nation, if not the whole planet, will be going Fifty Shades of Grey-crazy again when the film is released. I've yet to read the books - they've been so hyped up that I'm sure they would be a total let-down - and I'm pretty certain the film version won't be winning any Oscars either. Surf have jumped on the Fifty Shades bandwagon, releasing a cheeky new limited edition Flirty Shades of Surf variant, and they sent us through a bottle to try.

I love the tongue-in-cheek humour with the handcuffs hanging off the S of Surf. They also claim that it has an aphrodisiac scent, inspired by the latest ‘boudoir’ trend in fragrance.  It contains a blend of "scentsual" oils including alluring rose, a hint of jasmine and an infusion of spicy sandalwood. It is very nice and exotic, although I wouldn't go so far as to say I find it particularly aphrodisiac. Maybe it's doing the laundry that is the turn-off though !

To further back up their claims that their cheeky new fragrance will get temperatures rising in the bedroom, Surf have carried out a surprisingly raunchy survey which delves deep into the sex habits of Brits. Some of the results made me giggle :

Not only are women more likely to have sex if the sheets are clean, but the smell of clean sheets also features in the list of ultimate turn-ons to get her in the mood:
1. Fresh, clean bed linen (49%)
2. The smell of aftershave or perfume (41%)
3. Delicious food and drink (34%)
4. A scented hot bubble bath (32%)

As well as turn-ons, the research investigates turn-offs – and it’s smelly or dirty bed linen which is officially the biggest turn-off, with over half (52%) citing this as their greatest mood killer. Other turn-offs include noisy house guests or children (51%), dirty socks and laundry lying around (39%), an untidy house (30%) and unflattering lighting (19%).

The research delves further still – and when it comes to where to have sex, Brits prove more practical than impulsive, with over 6 in 10 (61%) saying that the bed is their favourite place to get frisky. The sofa (14%) and kitchen table (7%) were also cited, as was in the shower (7%), on the stairs (6%) and on top of the washing machine (3%).

Hang on, back up a minute there ... ON TOP OF THE WASHING MACHINE ?!! The mind boggles - it's not very big, is it ?! I'd just like to point out to Madhouse Daddy that despite the findings, I would much prefer a box of chocolates or a bunch of flowers to a bottle of laundry detergent on Valentine's Day, thank you very much. That said, it does smell very nice, so he can put a bottle in the trolley at the same time if he wants !

Available in capsules and liquid, ‘Flirty Shades of Surf’ has an RRP of £5.12 for liquid and £4.85 for capsules and is available in all major supermarkets until April 2015.

  1. I love clean sheets, but don't waste your time on the book. I read about half of the 1st volume, and couldn't finish it. I wanted to slap the woman myself for agreeing to be a slave, or whatever. Never found out how it ended, but don't care either way. I guess they stayed together, if there were 2 more books. Worst book of the last year for me for sure, badly written. She kept going on about her "inner goddess", I thought if I read that expression again, I'd throw the book on the BBQ, but it was a library copy so I just returned it unfinished

    1. LOL That's what I figured. I was tempted to see what the fuss was all about though. I'll stick to the clean sheets !
