Walls ice cream review

A few weeks ago, the lovely people at Walls sent me some vouchers so that I could try out some of their ice creams and tell you all about them. Well, the weather hasn't been particularly hot but nevertheless I popped into Tesco's and looked at what was on offer.

Walls had told me all about their new ranges for 2011 :

· Magnum Ghana and Magnum Ecuador - the first Magnum ice creams to be made with specially selected cocoa beans sourced from Rainforest Alliance Certified farms in Ecuador and Ghana

· Solero Exotic Explosions and Solero Berry Explosions - now with up to 50% more real fruit pieces AND only 90 calories

· Cornetto Enigma Chocolate & Caramel - that’s the one ‘with the irresistible ‘soft’ centre’

· Carte D’Or Macadamia Nights and Carte D’Or Cherry Blossom - perfect for sharing with family and friends this summer

I couldn't find the Solero Exotic Explosions or Berry Explosions in the freezer so I decided to try out the Solero Fruit Ice lollies and bought a box of pineapple and a box of orange. I was pleasantly surprised by a number of things. Firstly, the taste - they actually taste of real fruit, not an artificial fruity flavour, because they contain no artificial flavourings and actually have real chunks of fruit in them. The flavour is natural but intense and really refreshing. Secondly, the price - the RRP appears to be about £1.50 for a box of three but I grabbed mine in Tesco for £1 a box so stock up quickly. At that price, you definitely can't go wrong ! And thirdly, the calorie content - the orange ones contain 65 calories and the pineapple ones 55, which is incredible for something that tastes so delicious. You feel like you're getting a real sugar fix and eating something naughty but it's actually a really healthy option.

As you can see, Sophie loves them and she's judging purely on taste, not on the calorie count !

I also decided to give the Cornetto Enigma cones a try. I love the idea of them having sticky, delicious sauce all the way through the cone from top to bottom so I threw a box of chocolate/caramel and vanilla/raspberry cones in the trolley.

As soon as Madhouse Nanny and Grandad set eyes on them, they yelled "Cor, give them here, they're lovely !" and instantly started noshing their way through one each while I settled down with a Solero ! After I'd eaten a few bites of my lolly, I turned round to ask to see the inside of the Cornettos, to see how the saucy bit in the middle works. But they'd eaten them so fast that they both only had about a centimetre of cone left in their hands, which I guess speaks for itself !! They seem extra luxurious and decadent, compared to the traditional Cornettos. (RRP £2.99 for 4)

I was impressed to see that Walls have all bases covered whatever your tastes, from light and healthy to indulgent and delicious. I'll definitely be buying these again, as well as trying out some of the other products, with or without the sun !

star rating : 5/5

RRP : £1.50 for 3 Solero, £2.99 for 4 Cornetto Enigma
