The first thing you have to do is create your monkey, customising it and choosing a name for it. Then you're ready to play and jump into the game, completing quests and fighting enemies to work your way through the levels. There is absolutely no violence to worry about though, even at a cartoon level - enemies just disappear when you defeat them. The game is completely free to play, although - just like on Club Penguin - if you choose to, you can opt to buy special items or become a paid member, which gives you access to bonus quests and exlusive items and powers that free players can't use.
The game is designed and run by Nickelodeon, which is reassuring, as the're such a family-oriented, child-friendly company. They take child online safety very seriously, monitoring the game 24/7, using strict filters and only allowing chat for players on a "white list". Sophie hasn't been at all interested in using the chat function anyway - she's just having fun collecting bananas and completing quests.
It is aimed at kids aged 8-12 but is quite simple for younger kids too because there are arrows to show you where you need to go and a quest log that tells you exactly what you need to do. Sophie's finding it all very simple at the moment but, should she get stuck, the game also allows you to team up with your friends online to take on extra tough challenges.

i would just like to say that monkey quest is fun and all but it's a pain in the butt. you have to buy buy a membership to travel quickly and i dont want to pay $9.95 just for a month so what i did was just quit the game. oh and dont listen to the monkey quest commercials they lie!
ReplyDeleteThat's how they all work - Club Penguin, Wizard 101, etc. They lure you in with free membership then hope you'll sign up as paid VIP members to get optional extras. Sophie's still playing for free and having great fun though !
