WeightWatchers Wholemeal Pitta Bread review

You may have noticed that I've been reviewing several products from the WeightWatchers range of baked goods recently. After trying the WeightWatchers Mini Naan Bread and the WeightWatchers Wraps (click through to see what we thought of those), today we tried out their Wholemeal Pitta Breads. We'd frozen and defrosted them and they didn't fare quite so well as the other two products, crumbling in places and going slightly soggy in others, so I'd recommend you eat these fresh.

The great thing about pitta bread (from a parents' perspective) is that you can sneak all sorts of healthy things in there and the kids will be none the wiser ! I made up a mixture of finely chopped ham, grated carrot and sweetcorn, with a cheese spread triangle mashed in to help hold it all together. (You'll see why that's important in a moment !)

We popped the pitta bread under the grill for a couple of minutes to warm them up and let them go slightly crispy, then had fun making them into turtle sandwiches. To be honest, they came out more like ghosts this time, because the kids did the decorating, but they still loved them !

Here is what the original (and best !) Turtle Sandwich looked like . They're dead easy to make. You just chop a pitta in half, cut off a strip then cut the strip in four. Stuff both pockets and stand them side by side, one as the head and one as the body. Place the four squares as feet then use a dab of cheese spread to stick on raisin eyes. Cowabunga !

The WeightWatchers Wholemeal Pitta Bread seemed slightly dry to us, but that's probably because we usually have white pitta bread. Each pitta bread contains 106 calories, 3 ProPoints, 19.8g of carbs (of which 1g sugar), 3.4g of fibre and 0.5g of fat (of which 0.2g saturated fat). They're an easy way of getting extra fibre into your diet and make a nice change to normal sliced bread in your lunchbox.

star rating : 4/5
