Picture book review : Sunshine and Snowballs - Margaret Wise Brown

It may sound like an odd pairing but the latest picture book that we've been reviewing is Sunshine and Snowballs by Margaret Wise Brown, illustrated by Charlotte Cooke. This enchanting book, written in rhyme, takes us on a voyage into the countryside throughout the changing seasons and introduces a whole host of animals, plantlife and weather phenomena to young readers through the highly detailed illustrations.

It's as much a book to look at as a book to read (each page only has a short line of text on it) and we stopped on each and every page, pointing out things in the pictures. Pierre repeatedly asked what the different birds, animals and flowers were called and it will be a lovely book to pull out at different times of the year to recognise the changing seasons at the same time as experiencing them.

The beautiful illustrations mean that at idle moments, even as an adult I pick it up and flick through it like a grown up coffee table book too !

  1. I was checking out this book and not heard of it before. I know some of her original books have been re-released with new illustrations but I'm wondering if this one is an entirely new release. The illustrations alone make me want this book. Thank you for your review.
