Our Little Secret Temptuous Tikka Lababdar review

Yesterday, I had a fridge full of leftovers to use up - cooked veggies, roast potatoes and roast pork - but I wanted something a bit more exciting than lobbing them in a pan and warming them up with some gravy. I looked through my cupboard for inspiration and came across this pouch of Our Little Secret Temptuous Tikka Lababdar sauce.

This dine-in cooking sauce was a finalist in the New Product Awards 2013 run by The Grocer and it certainly sounds a bit more exciting than the usual korma/biryani/madras/rogan josh curry sauces that tend to be our store cupboard staples here at The Madhouse. It's described as "a quintessential British favourite made from fresh tomatoes, onions, capsicum and exotic Indian spices". Not sure I'd have called it a quintessential British favourite, but it certainly sounded just the thing for jazzing up my leftovers.

It was literally a case of chopping the pork and potatoes into bite-sized pieces, adding the vegetables and the sauce and stirring over a moderate heat to warm it through.

The label suggests using it with chicken, lamb, fish, prawns pork or your favourite vegetable. It worked really well with my mixture of pork and Mexican-style vegetables (red kidney beans, red peppers, sweetcorn, carrots). I think it would go with most things though and it's a mild, one chilli-rating sauce so the whole family can tuck in, even if they don't like spicy food.

Now, I have to admit, it doesn't LOOK very appetising - one member of the family even went so far as to rudely point out that it looked like someone had eaten it already ! They're not completely wrong, but it did taste very nice !

Each 125g serving of the sauce (1/3 of the pack) contains 189 calories, 1g of sugars, 11g of fat (of which 3g saturates) and 2g salt. It's perfect for injecting some excitement into your Sunday roast leftovers.
