Globecooking recipe : Slow Cooker BBQ Beef (USA)

One of the products in a recent Degustabox was this rather large bottle of BBQUE sauce. It's beautifully sweet and smokey and although I've been using it drizzled on meat as a marinade or on the side of the plate as a dipping sauce, I wanted to do something special to use up the rest of the bottle. I decided to throw it in the slow cooker with a cheap cut of stewing beef and was very impressed with the result.

Slow Cooker BBQ Beef

ingredients :

800g stewing steak (the cheaper and tougher the better when it's going in the slow cooker !)
1tbsp garlic granules
2 large onions
1/2 bottle BBQUE sauce

Usually I brown the meat on all sides but as I was in a rush, I just threw it straight in the slow cooker. It came out perfectly so I'm not sure browning it actually adds much to the final dish ! Sprinkle with garlic granules.

Roughly chop the onions and throw them in.

Squeeze over half a bottle of BBQ sauce.

That's it ! Cook on slow for 8 hours.

The beef becomes so well cooked that it falls apart when you stab it with a fork. The meat releases a lot of juice during cooking which waters down the BBQ sauce so you might want to add a quick squirt and stir it in just before serving. The meat is infused all the way through with a wonderful sweet smokiness.

It takes literally five minutes to prepare so this would be a great dish to start before heading off to work. There's nothing better than coming home after a long day at work to a ready-cooked meal and fabulous cooking smells wafting down the hallway to welcome you home !

I served this with rice which was very nice because it soaked up the sauce nicely. If you want to go all American, it could go nicely with nachos or spicy wedges and coleslaw though. I saw another idea online too - using it to fill burger baps or sliced baguettes - now that sounds rather nice too !
