Giveaway #711 : Win a Milton antibacterial bundle - closed - winner Sharon Martin

Milton has been a leading name in sterilising for over 70 years. During that time the ‘Milton Method’ of cold water sterilisation has been used by millions of parents, and in homes and hospitals throughout the UK and beyond. But that's not all !

Many of their products can be used around the home or when out and about and, during the winter months, they can be a great way of avoiding the spread of germs if anyone has got a cold or the flu. Here are some of the most useful day-to-day products :

Antibacterial Surface Wipes

Ideal for travel and quick clean ups at home or on the move with baby. Kill 99.9% of germs including bacterial and fungi. Can be used on highchairs, toys, changing mats. Also handy for on the go when using public transport and restaurant toilets. Fragrance free and no need to rinse.

RRP – £2.35. Stockists: Asda, Babies R Us, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Tesco and Precious Little One.

Antibacterial Surface Spray

Bleach-free formula cleans, disinfects and freshens all surfaces - including kitchen worktops, potties, high chairs, fridges and baby’s changing mat. This 3-in-1 antibacterial spray kills 99.9% of germs including bacteria and fungi, leaving a lovely fresh fragrance.

RRP – £2.29. Stockists: Asda, Babies R Us, Sainsbury’s, Superdrug, Tesco and Precious Little One.

Antibacterial Hand Gel

Milton’s new plant based Antibacterial Hand Gel is designed to help ward off germs. The gel is effective in just 30 seconds on bacteria, mycobacteria, fungi, viruses and 99.9% of germs. 100% plant based, the active ingredient is produced from beetroot certified to be GMO free. The gel is fragrance and colour free, reducing the risk of an allergic skin reaction. It is hypoallergenic and tested dermatologically making it ideal for multiple daily use on both big and little hands.

The 100ml version retails at £2.26 and is available from Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s, Boots, Waitrose and Ocado and specialist Baby stores. The 500ml versions retails at £3.99 and is available from Boots. The packaging is 100% recyclable

Milton has also launched a new eco-friendly Baby Bottle Cleaner, specifically to remove milk residue, made with 100% plant based cleaning agents. The 100% biodegradable cleaner has been designed to ensure thorough cleaning of babies feeding equipment before sterilising.

The new baby bottle cleaner is dermatologically tested and formulated for sensitive skin, making it kind to hands even after washing up multiple times per day. The transparent gel is fragrance, colour and paraben free. It comes in a 500ml dispenser bottle with push and pull pump, releasing the correct amount of liquid to create a foamy lather for cleaning a range of products, including babies’ bottles, teats, teethers, toys, breast pump components, breastfeeding accessories and family dishes.

All baby feeding equipment must be pre-cleaned to be sterilised effectively; milk often creates a white film on feeding equipment which can be difficult to remove especially around the rim of a bottle. Milk residue left on bottles, can create a dangerous breeding ground for bacteria growth.

The Baby Bottle Cleaner retails at £2.99 and is available from Boots, Ocado and specialist Baby stores. The packaging is 100% recyclable.

Milton products are available nationwide and can be found in Asda, Babies R Us, John Lewis, Kiddicare, Kiddisave, Mothercare, Ocado, Precious Little One’s, Sainsbury’s Superdrug, Tesco and many independent retailers, online stores and pharmacies.

Giveaway #677 : Win an award-winning Bshirt for breastfeeding mums - closed - winner Helen Stratton

When a press release landed in my inbox recently for ethical breastfeeding clothing brand The Bshirt and their award-winning ‘Lift The Flap’ tops, I felt all nostalgic. I absolutely respect every mum's choice to breast or bottle feed their baby, but I have to say, those precious moments of absolute intimacy and special bonding with a newborn (and not-so-newborn, as I kept going for well over a year each time) remain some of my favourite memories of each of the Madhouse kids. That said, breastfeeding in public is always tricky, which is why The Bshirt looks so fantastic - the perfect combination of funky and functional.

The Bshirt is delighted to announce the launch of their award-winning ‘Lift The Flap’ tops on innovative shopping destination site for mums, NINERY. The online portal dedicated to providing mums and mums-to-be with must have clothing and accessories is a hub of ideas and inspiration. Brimming with unique fashion forward finds, The Bshirt joins leading brands and will be available from April 2018.

Stylish and empowering, The Bshirt can be worn on its own or as a vest top under clothes, to help make breastfeeding even more fashionable. Co-founded by two Devon based mumpreneurs, the Bshirt ‘Lift the Flap’ range of breastfeeding tops are all made from organic cotton, feeling super soft and easy to wear.

Co-founders Lisa and Philippa commented ahead of the launch: “We are huge fans of NINERY and are thrilled about the first Bshirt collection launching on the site this spring. The Bshirt is so much more than just a top, helping new mums to breastfeed with confidence by empowering women to breastfeed wearing their favourite fashions. The launch is an exciting step for us to be able share our breastfeed with confidence message with even more mums.”

NINERY founder, Penny Harrison said: "I am so thrilled that our customers can now find the Bshirt collection for sale at NINERY. I've been keen to work with Philippa and Lisa right from the beginning as their brilliant Lift the Flap top is exactly the kind of product I had in mind when creating the concept of my marketplace site.”

Penny continued: “I am passionate about bringing together lots of independent, stylish brands for mums and mums-to-be all at one contemporary shopping site, so women don't have to spend hours trawling online. I hope that as many mums as possible can discover exciting breastfeeding fashion options at NINERY and we're really proud that the Bshirt is joining us on our journey."

A social venture launched in March 2017, Bshirt co-founders Lisa and Philippa are passionate about improving breastfeeding rates in the UK and enabling women to breastfeed confidently for as long as they wish. The UK currently has some of the worst breastfeeding rates in the world and both the NHS and Unicef list embarrassment at feeding in public as a major barrier to breastfeeding.

The Bshirt has seen amazing results from customer surveys, with 83% of saying they feel more confident feeding in front of others while wearing their Bshirts. The team is also thrilled to have just been announced as a Gold winner in the MadeForMums Awards 2018, within the Breastfeeding accessory category.

Browse the full range available and find your perfect outfit pairings for any occasion this season,ninerystore.com. To find out more information on The Bshirt and wider collection, visit www.thebshirt.co.uk.

Giveaway #675 : Win a pair of Dotty Fish soft sole shoes - closed - winner Ana Nowell #dottyfish #softsolemovement

Baby footwear brand Dotty Fish have been working with The London Podiatry Centre, one of the most advanced podiatric clinics in the world. They looked closely at the effects of soft-soled footwear on a child who is learning to walk and taking those crucial first steps.

Dotty Fish have always been passionate about baby foot health and are keen to get the message out to parents on the benefits of wearing soft sole shoes. “We want to give people the information needed to make an informed choice when buying footwear for young children. We want to create a movement, one that looks at what is best for babies’ feet.” explains Helen Chapman, founder of Dotty Fish

The London Podiatry Centre has one of the most advanced dedicated podiatric gait facilities anywhere in the world and have a wealth of information when it comes to foot health especially paediatric foot health. This is the first time they have ever worked with a baby shoe brand to analyse a child taking those early steps wearing a soft sole baby shoe. “We are an evidence-based clinic and we use very advanced technology to help us determine if something helps biomechanically” explained Ron McCulloch, Consultant Podiatric Surgeon and Director at The London Podiatry Centre. “So far the results have been encouraging”.

For many years there has been a perception that a baby’s first shoe should be a structured shoe that will help keep them steady on their feet, but this is a misconception. Dotty Fish and The London Podiatry Centre hope to re-educate parents about the right kind of footwear they should be choosing for their children. In fact, the very best thing for a baby learning to walk and a toddler who is new to walking is to have bare feet but this isn’t always practical in the artificial, modern world we live in. The next best thing is to have an extremely lightweight flexible shoe with a thin, non-slip sole that protects a baby’s delicate foot and prevents slipping. This type of shoe will still give them all the benefits of walking barefoot whilst protecting their feet and allowing them to feel the floor beneath them.

“We want to educate parents and childcare professionals on why soft soled shoes are better for developing feet. The anatomy of a baby or toddler’s foot is different from an adult and we need to take this into account when buying those first few pairs of shoes,” explains Helen. “A baby’s foot doubles in size between birth and the age of 4 years. By their first birthday their foot is almost half the size it will be as an adult. Babies have 22 partially developed bones in their feet that are mostly cartilage while adults have 26 bones. This rapid growth and development needs to be kept in mind when choosing which shoes to buy.”

Shoes for young babies and children need to be:
Flexible so feet can move naturally
Lightweight allowing for natural ankle, knee and hip movement
Wide around the toes to allow the feet to spread when standing
Thin soled so children’s toes can grip the floor in the same way as if they were barefoot
A snug fit so they don’t come off but without restricting movement or growth
Made from a breathable material as babies’ feet sweat 2-3 times more than adults’ do

#NAPPYHACKS - A frank and honest guide to changing nappies from ALDI Mamia & DadBlogUK

First-time parenting is a total minefield for new mums and dads and one of the daily tasks that can go most spectacularly wrong, especially in the early days, is nappy changing. All parents have horror stories to tell (with unconcealed glee !) of explosive nappies that burst through three layers of clothing, rogue wees all over your clothes just as you're about to head out of the door to work and poo leakages that smeared all over baby's back and head after removing a particularly soiled baby-gro ! But never fear - help is at hand. Aldi Mamia has partnered with Dad Blog UK to create the ultimate  guide to #NAPPYHACKS.

*******************************************

A FRANK AND HONEST GUIDE TO CHANGING NAPPIES FROM ALDI MAMIA AND DADBLOG UK

Congratulations, you’re a new Dad! Welcome to the world of varying sleep patterns, the intricacies of car seats and cot building, and the one task that can truly be described as Herculean… nappy changing. With 25% of a family’s weekly child care now carried out by Dad, gone are the days when the nappy change fell solely to mum.

To get you through the twelve (yes, twelve) changes you’ll be making per day, Aldi Mamia has partnered with Dad Blog UK to provide the essential #NappyHacks:

Deely Boppers

“First and foremost, distraction is key when it comes to making nappy-changes as quick and pain-free as possible. Get your baby’s attention away from...down there, by donning some snazzy, dangly headgear to act as a visual aid. No, you may not look your best, but it will make baby happy and might buy you 30 seconds less wriggle time, even if you do look like a muppet.

Here’s something that unwittingly catches out many first-time parents and makes baby scream… COLD HANDS! Whilst it might be tempting to wear your thermal gloves, it’s probably more sensible to run your hands under hot water before you start. Remember – warm hands = happy baby.

Baby Changing Table for Boys

Do you have a son? Be warned that as soon as a nappy is removed, the rush of cold air is often enough to encourage them to pee themselves. Brace yourself and have a spare paper cup handy to shield the area AND deflect-and-collect said liquid! That or consider wearing goggles.

Can’t believe how much your tiny tot has grown? Believe me, you soon will if your baby isn’t wearing the right size nappy. Too tight and baby will be uncomfortable and potentially popping out the flaps. Too loose and you’re going to have one hell of a clean-up job (quite literally) on your hands. Fret not though and put away the measuring tape…to make sure you’re using the correct nappy for your baby’s age and weight, consult Aldi Mamia’s helpful guide which outlines the different sizes available.

You’ll soon come to realise that nappy rash cream is an essential friend to your baby’s bottom – but a total foe to yourself and your clothes (which it will probably end up smeared all over). Consider donning a pair of Marigolds to avoid it becoming a fashion accessory or worse still, an unwanted condiment in your lunch...or alternatively have a pack of Mamia Sensitive Baby Wipes to hand.

#worldnowashday "wrinkle up your nose, pop a peg on it and take a #smelfie!" Feel free to go cross eyed! Nice one @hiutdenim!😊👍 hey you're it... @hellokateberry @wholelarderlove @rwhwr @uwenna @swissmiss @rossandalice @gossifer @christybish

Baby done an absolute honker? Try applying a peg to your nose to keep out the fumes. Your partner will love your dedication to the cause, or you could just bag the problem with Aldi’s Nappy Sacks and dispose of it as far away as physically possible.

At some point, your baby WILL do a ‘poonami’ of epic proportions. Few new parents realise it, but baby grows are designed to be rolled down over the shoulders (as well as pulled up over the head) to help prevent muck spreading all over your child’s back, head and hair. #yourewelcome”

Mind. Blown? If you’re a total nappy novice, you’ll be glad to know that Aldi Mamia nappies contain super stretchy sides and flexible leg cuffs to help prevent leaks. They also have overlapping resealable fasteners to fit small and big babies snug and securely. Aldi’s Award winning Mamia nappy range is suitable for newborns and babies of all ages and sizes but if you’re not sure which size you should be using, see the appendix for a handy guide.

Aldi Mamia nappies cost as little as 5p per nappy, and they don’t just come with a great price tag, they’ve also secured Gold for four consecutive years at the Mother & Baby Awards in the Best Disposable Nappy category and were awarded 10 accolades at the Prima Baby Awards 2016, with the Newborn and Ultra Dry Nappies taking Gold in the nappy categories. And if that wasn’t enough the entire range of nappies has been endorsed by the Good Housekeeping Institute

Goggles at the go, pegs on nose and hat on head? Good luck you’re ready to go!

With studies showing that babies can cost as much as £11,498 in the first year, it’s no surprise that mum and dad’s social life is often put on hold. New research from Aldi Mamia has found that 78% of first-time parents have had fewer or no date-nights since baby arrived, with nearly half (49%) citing less money than before as the main reason.

I well remember those days, but for me, it was lack of sleep and the need to be on boob-duty that put a spanner in the works if we wanted a night out ! That said, I wouldn't have said no to some extra nights in on the sofa with a pizza or a Chinese takeaway, so a bit of extra cash is always welcome.

New parents could save over £400 a year by implementing simple switches such as using own-brand nappies compared to the market leader. With a newborn’s nappy needing to be changed up to 12 times a day, reviewing the nappies you are using is a simple way to start saving money. At 14p per nappy, parents using the nation’s leading nappy brand could spend as much as £613.20 on nappies in the first year alone (£1.68 per day and £11.76 per week). At less than 5p (4.6p) a nappy, Aldi Mamia parents are spending as little as 55p per day, £3.85 a week, £16.50 a month, and just £198 per year in comparison. A huge yearly saving of £415.20, or £34.60 a month – enough to make sure Mum and Dad can afford a babysitter for a well-deserved night off!

Aldi Mamia’s nappies don’t just come with a great price tag though, as they’ve scooped Gold for four consecutive years at the Mother & Baby Awards in the Best Disposable Nappy category and were awarded 10 accolades at the Prima Baby Awards 2016, with the Newborn and Ultra Dry Nappies taking Gold in the nappy categories. And if that wasn’t enough, the entire range of nappies has been endorsed by the Good Housekeeping Institute.

I used to use them when the Madhouse kids were little and they were just as good as the much more expensive bigger brands that we tried, including Pampers and Huggies, so this is definitely a simple way of cutting your budget without compromising on quality. The wipes are great too - you might like to check out our review here.

Disclosure : Aldi sent me some vouchers as a thank you for sharing their findings. I won't be needing to stock up on nappies so, time for a mum-and-dad night in with a bottle of wine and some munchies maybe?!

Picture book review : Yoga Babies - Fearne Cotton

There's no stopping Fearne Cotton ! Not content with being one of the UK's most in-demand TV and radio presenters, captaining a team on Celebrity Juice, completing arduous challenges such as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro and cycling the length of Britain with David Walliams for charity, being the face of BaByliss, launching her own fashion range with Very.co.uk AND (arguably the toughest challenge of the lot !), being a mum-of-two, she has also just written a cute picture book called Yoga Babies.

Fearne completely understands the time pressures put on parents and kids in the modern world but she also believes that being healthy needn't be expensive, time-consuming or difficult, so she is on a mission to involve children and families from all backgrounds in activities that can improve their health and mental well-being, as well as promote a lifelong love of reading. Give the girl an MBE right now !

In the preface, Fearne says : "Yoga is such a wonderful activity for all the family and has a hugely calming impact all round. It's great for coordination as well as health and well-being. It's also lots of fun ! I love doing yoga with my kids but I'm not a yoga teacher. The text and illustrations in this book have been approved by a qualified yoga instructor, but Yoga Babies was not written as a 'How-To' guide."

The Yoga Babies are very cute. We had a good giggle when we spotted Sophie as well as Emily (my sister) among the names, but our favourite is George, running away squealing with his toys ! There are also Rex, Prakash, Maya, wild-haired Kit and the twins Sam and Tom. Whatever their looks and personalities, most young readers will find at least one that they can identify with.

The book, written in short rhymes, shows how yoga can be incorporated into your day without going to a class or making it into a big thing. The cute illustrations, by Sheena Dempsey, show the Yoga Babies striking a pose at a barbecue in the park, in the bathroom, in the garden or at Granny's house, amongst other places. It's a great way of bringing yoga to the masses, especially for those who might be put off by an official class, thinking you have to be extremely supple or invest in specific yoga clothes or equipment. Seeing how successful the mums and dads in the story use yoga to calm the kids down after a rough day or just before bedtime, if you fancy giving it a go yourself, there are a few simple (and above all fun) yoga poses that you can try with the kids on the back cover.
