Pourty Potty

When I took it out of the box, I took one look at this potty and thought - why hasn't someone done this before ? It's just so obvious and so simple that I'm amazed a designer hasn't come up with the idea before now. I mean, how long have potties been around ? And - apart from the novelty-shaped ones or the posh designer ones - the basic "bog standard" (sorry for the bad pun !) design hasn't changed in decades.

This Pourty potty overcomes the huge design fault of the classic potty - a design fault that I will admit that I had never even thought about until I saw the new Pourty design. As they say on the Pourty website, "When emptying a conventional potty you have to pour the pee and/or poo over the area where the child sits and any pee dribbles down the side of the potty. We found that really annoying and so we have come up with a very simple but effective solution - the Pourty.
You can pour the poo and wee through the duct out of the back of the Pourty away from where your toddler sits or touches with no messy dribbles. Simply clean by refilling the pourty with water and pouring it out the back again. We cannot think why anybody would buy a normal potty when they could buy a Pourty." Well, I have to say, I'd agree with them ! It works really well and if you do ever get any dribbles or "splashbacks" (!) when you empty the potty, which I have to say I didn't, they're round the back where your little one won't be sitting or putting their hands.

As is often the case with the fantastically useful and practical baby and child products, the Pourty was designed by parents, Jonnie and Lucy Rathbone. They have three children aged 2, 3 and 4 and the two eldest were potty training last year. They explain, "We became frustrated with the mess and unpleasantness of emptying a standard potty. We could not understand why the standard potty design, a receptacle for human waste, had no means of emptying it."

Apart from the non-negligeable hygiene factor, the Pourty offers all the usual characteristics you'd expect from a standard potty. It's ergonomically designed to be comfortable for boys & girls, has a wide base for stability, a high splash guard, is made of smooth plastic for easy cleaning and comes in a choice of colours (yep, you've guessed it - pink, blue and white !).

You can even click here see a video on youtube of the pourty being demonstrated - they're prunes by the way !!
