Kids DVD review : Thomas & Friends Blue Mountain Mystery - The Movie

***Don't miss out on your chance to win Thomas & Friends Blue Mountain Mystery DVDs right here on my blog ! ***

Thomas & Friends are back in a brand new DVD, the feature-length Blue Mountain Mystery - The Movie, which will be released on DVD next week on Monday 3rd September. (This is the fifth direct-to-DVD special and continues the tradition of a new Thomas feature being released once a year.) Pierre was very excited when an early review copy popped through the letterbox !

In this latest adventure, Thomas is sent off to work at the Blue Mountain Quarry where he discovers a mysterious green engine hiding away in the tunnels. Thomas soon befriends him, finds out his name is Luke and that he is hiding because he thinks he has done something so terrible he'll be sent away from the Island of Sodor forever.

Thomas sets out to discover what's happened, piecing together Luke's story until he has the whole picture - a valuable life-lesson for all little viewers about not jumping to conclusions. Thomas uncovers lots of exciting things, including engines sent to Sodor from faraway places and even a poor train that fell into the sea.

As usual, we get to meet some brand new characters. As well as the mysterious Luke, the green engine hiding in the tunnels, we get to know Owen the incline traction engine, Merrick the crane and Winston the track inspection vehicle. I'm always impressed with how many new characters and vehicles they can come up with, even if I'm sure it's just a secret ploy to get us all to keep buying the new additions as toys to complete the collection !

It's a lovely film that the whole family can enjoy, full of exciting adventures and with a lovely moral, showing the power of friendship. There are also some nice bonus features that Pierre really enjoyed - a guide to narrow and standard gauge engines, four Guess Who? puzzles and two sing-alongs.

If you have a little Thomas fan in your midst, don't go away - I have two copies of the DVD to give away so make sure you try your luck !
