Globecooking recipe : Planche Normande - Baked Camembert Salad (France)

A couple of weeks ago, we went to a local French brasserie for lunch and tucked into a "planche Normande" - literally a Norman (from Normandy) board. It was really tasty and would be very easy to recreate at home so I thought I'd share the recipe with you.

"Planche Normande" - Baked Camembert Salad

ingredients :

lettuce (I'd add cucumber and tomato too)
optional : salad dressing
boiled new potatoes
pickled onions and gherkins
smoked ham
1 camembert cheese per person
crusty bread roll

Cover a plate or wooden board with salad. (They covered it in dressing but I don't think it really needed it.) Arrange slices of smoked ham, pickled onions and gherkins on top.

Boil some new potatoes and put the camembert, in its box but minus the plastic wrap, in the oven at 150°. (This can also be done on the barbecue.) Don't worry if the wooden box starts looking black and charred on the outside !

Drain the potatoes and add to the plate. Put the cheese, still in its box, on top of the salad and serve immediately with crusty bread. You can pour the melted cheese all over everything or keep it in the box and dip the potatoes and bread into it.

Thanks to Sophie (my daughter !) from Sophie's Bilingual World for the photos !
