We've had some really wet and windy weather lately so, as today was a cold but sunny day, we decided to take advantage of the free weekend buses to head off to the far end of the beach. As we headed down the roads towards the seafront, we saw piles of sand that had been blown up from the beach. As we got closer to the prom, they grew in size to mini sand dunes !
The kids thought that it was great fun climbing all over them.
The seats along the promenade were all but buried !
The tide was out so there was a vast expanse of sand to walk, run and play on.
We weren't the only ones to have had this idea though.
The kitesurfers were out in force too.
As we wandered along collecting shells at the tideline, we were flabbergasted to come across two starfish. I flipped them over for the kids to have a proper look and one of them moved, so we moved them right back down the beach to the water's edge, partly so they didn't get walked on and partly because, now that the wind has died down, I'm not sure the sea would come that far up the beach again.
We also found lots of sea urchins along the beach. This all reminded us of the Tide of the Century last spring when there were dead fish washed up right at the top of the beach where it joins the promenade !
