Garfield first appeared in a comic strip created by Jim Davis in 1978, but since then, he's come a long way. He has featured in a whole host of TV programmes and films, the latest of which, Garfield Pet Force 3D, has just been released. Despite not even being available on DVD yet - the film started showing in cinemas on the 1st October and will be available to buy on DVD from 18th October - here at the Madhouse, we got a sneaky preview DVD to watch and review. Get the popcorn ready !
I gave you the quick plot synopsis on my recent blogpost (where you can win 5 copies of Garfield's previous DVD, Garfield's Fun Fest) : "When Garfield and his friends are trying to enjoy a barbeque, little do they know that in a very different universe a battle is being waged ! In a comic book world of heroes and villains, Garzooka and his trusted team of super-powered heroes, the Pet Force, must defeat the evil Vetvix, who is turning the inhabitants of their world into mindless zombie slaves ! When the Pet Force falls into a trap set by Vetvix, it’s up to Garzooka to enlist a new breed of superheroes. Crashing the barbeque, Garzooka recruits Garfield and the gang. Will this new Pet Force stop Vetvix? Will Garfield ever be able to finish his barbeque ?"
Sounds silly ? Yes, it is - and that's the whole point really ! Garfield and his buddies get up to their usual madcap antics and the film is so fast-paced and action-packed than young (and not so young !) viewers will remain transfixed for the entire duration of the film. The girls loved it and some of the jokes even made me smile too. The added bonus of getting to wear special 3D glasses just made it even more exciting for them.
It won't make it on to my all-time favourite movies list but it was a great way to spend a rainy afternoon snuggled up on the settee with the kids.
