16-month-old Pierre's favourite game at the moment is kissing everyone in the family while making a big smack sound with his lips ! He usually starts with Juliette, then Sophie, then Mummy, then Daddy ... then he starts all over again ! You can't help it, however tired, stressed or icky with cold you're feeling, you just have to smile and feel all warm and snuggly inside !
Well, this book has the same effect. It doesn't tell a story, it just reassures your kids that you love them. It introduces some opposites, such as the line "I love you ... silent and talking" and, if it's been a day filled with squabbles and tears, I tend to invent a few extra lines to put a smile back on everyone's faces, like "I love you ... when you're playing nicely with each other or fighting over who gets the Playmobil" , "I love you ... when you're in a good mood or when you keep whingeing" and "I love you ... when you do as you're told and even when you keep being naughty" ! The girls then tend to invent a few of their own about Mummy too - "I love you ... when you laugh or when you shout", "I love you ... when you play outside with us or when you say it's too cold" ! It's a real peacemaker book, great for resolving unsettled disputes that are still lingering at bedtime !!
This is a really lovely board book to read to your kids, however old they are ! The pages are solid enough to withstand some pretty rough handling by Pierre (and the odd bit of teething too !) and he loves looking at the pictures and listening to the soothing words at bedtime. As you can see from the front cover picture, the illustrations are absolutely gorgeous, featuring a cute little boy and his teddy bear. Definite aaaah-factor !
