This week was a calmer week on the work front - I think we're finally getting on top of the routine and so are the pupils, so there are less questions coming through by email, which means that I can chill out a bit more. Phew ! The government have just announced that the bac (18 year olds) and brevet (15 year olds) exams are going to be cancelled this summer and marked on coursework, so I can see the final year students cooling off on the work front (including Juliette !). It's the final week before the holidays and I'm looking forward to chilling out and spending some quality time with the kids.
Sunday 30th March - Having eaten all of the pancakes that she made last week, Juliette asked to make more. This time I helped her out, and we discovered that she used about a quarter of the milk that she was supposed to last time ! They still tasted good, but I suppose they had more the texture of American pancakes. This time she made thinner ones, which were also very tasty ... and also disappeared very quickly !
Monday - Something very strange is going on with my kitchen timers. The red one on the left is great as it has a metallic back that sticks on the fridge. I've been using it for years but, for some reason, it now doesn't do anything when you twist it. Has it even got a battery in it? I've never put one in it, but it might have. While awaiting investigation, I pulled out the football one. I used it for one day then that stopped working too. Bizarre ! Luckily, I still had another one (these are all from various bloggy cooking challenges in the past) so that one is still working.
Tuesday - Pierre's teacher is a genius ! Part of his maths homework was making these fabulous chocolate cakes. The recipe was for 10 and she wanted it changed to 20, plus she used all sorts of measurements that needed converting. They were delicious and very similar to the chocolate fondants that we made last week. I shared the recipe if you want to have a go.
Wednesday - Day off for me and the kids. Time to grab some more shopping. I only go once a week/every ten days, and it's the only time I go outside, so I always spot the changes - they've added metal barriers now outside of the supermarket, either to stop people passing each other when heading back to the pavement, or providing space for them to queue up before going into the shop. I had chosen to go at lunchtime so it was quiet, but maybe it's busier at peak times ? Back home, when I went to take a photo of something, I discovered that Pierre had taken a shot of himself on my camera !
Thursday - As they had lots of blueberries when I went shopping yesterday, I grabbed a few packs and the kids have been eating them like sweets. Yum !
Friday - The sky was beautifully pink at sunset. It doesn't come out at all in the photo, but today was a totally boring day which just involved lots of work, so it'll have to do !
Saturday - My chill-out day ! I finished watching Locke & Key on Netflix, which is quite cool to watch with the kids. It's about a family that move to their dad's childhood home after he is murdered and soon discover a series of keys that allow them to open up different parts of their brain/memory banks to visit. There are also bad guys, who want to get hold of the keys and will go to any lengths to do so. A nice bit of excitement in these dull days ! I also watched Unbelievable this week, which follows a young girl who reports a rape, then is worn down until she admits that she made it up. Several years later, two female cops, following up some rapes in other states, discover that she was telling the truth. It's a great tale of the underdog coming out on top.
Oooo Locke & Key sounds good, will look it up with Eliza as she loves things like that. I want to bake with the kids to help with their maths but cannot get hold of any flour at the moment which is annoying
ReplyDeleteThey've run out of flour in our local supermarket too - I managed to grab the last bag of organic flour that was on the wrong shelf ! Last time, I did that with pasta - I must be extra lucky ! lol
DeleteLike the sound of Locke & Key. We've been binge-watching Agents of Shield, just finished season 4. Love Pierre's selfie. The sunset is beautiful. Last time I went food shopping, we had to queue outside, 2 metres apart, but no barriers. It was also very quiet as nobody was talking, except someone on the mobile.
ReplyDeleteWe had pancakes for dinner today, that was the last two eggs, eek.
Eek hope you manage to get more eggs ! I think shopping at lunchtime (straight after lunch if we eat early) is a good way of avoiding people - the shop's pretty much empty.
DeleteI am glad things are calmer with work.
ReplyDeleteThose pancakes look so good.
That is such a good idea from the teacher to get the kids baking as well as doing maths.
Great photos x
Fingers crossed, it's staying calmer this week too - phew !
DeleteLocke and Key sounds good, I've also been snacking on blueberries, they don't last long do they. Love the teachers baking lesson, and an end product to enjoy. Keep well x
ReplyDeleteI keep running out of fruit and I don't want to go out just for that, so it'll have to wait until I next go shopping ! lol
DeleteI shall have to look up Unbelievable, that sounds really good. The chocolate cakes look delicious. N isn't a fan of chocolate cake so we rarely make it.
ReplyDeleteSame here, I'm not usually a fan of rich chocolate cake but these ones got a thumbs up !
Deletethat picture of Pierre is quite scary.....looks like something you would see in a horror movie if you were to open a letter box and peep through.
ReplyDeleteThe maths cooking is a great idea, but then I guess if you get the ingredients wrong then they wont taste right.
We have watched unbelievable as well. need to give Locke and key a go.
LOL Yes, I could imagine Pierre peering through the letterbox like this, maybe when the confinement gets a bit much ! For the cooking, she sends through the answers too, so I check before cooking, to be on the safe side !
DeleteOoh the sunset is beautiful. I have watched the first episode of Locke and Key need to watch the rest. We did some baking this week. It is fun. Be careful. Hugs xx
ReplyDeleteI think we are all going to end up living the same lives - watching the same stuff on Netflix, eating the same basics, doing the same cooking projects with the kids ... lol
DeleteBeautiful photo of the sunset. The pancakes and chocolate cake look tasty. It is weird seeing the little changes each time you go out to the supermarket isn't it? Hope you are keeping safe x #project366
ReplyDeleteIt certainly is ! Our town posted some pictures of flowers in full bloom on my bus route to work and I was like wow, where did they come from? lol
DeleteGlad that work is slowing down a bit for you. We are also looking forward to the Easter holidays. Those cakes look yummy. I am always on the look out for new Netflix suggestions especially at the moment as we have watched a lot of TV over the last couple of weeks recuperating.
ReplyDeleteI don't normally watch much TV so I have lots to choose from ! lol
DeleteI quite like the sound of Locke and Key. I'm not really watching much TV at the moment as the weather is so nice, but I'm sure that will change.I love that you had 3 timers to fall back on when one failed - my house is a bit like that.
ReplyDeleteLOL I had a vague idea that I had a spare timer, but I must admit, I didn't know I had three spares !
DeleteGlad things are calmer at work. Exams here are also cancelled. I am kind of relieved my daughter didn't have to deal with that this year. but very sad for the kids that have worked so hard.
ReplyDeleteWe have to go supermarket shopping this week, I am not looking forward to it, I am not really going out other than that.
Hope you manage to get everything you need at the supermarket :)
DeleteIt's quite tough for graduating students like A2 level students. Nice pancakes. Cool timers. Camera's aren't perfect but the sunset does look beautiful. Both the series sound interesting. I think I saw the trailer of Unbelievable but I didn't know Toni Colette was in this
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely worth a watch :)
DeleteGreta idea to use a recipe to teach maths! I have pancakes on my list for this week: bought lemons and need to use them! #project366
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the pancakes ! :)
