Tigg's Perfect Match Fresh Dressings, For Food Lovers Everywhere ! (review)

So, what's for dinner today? Boiled potatoes, chips, mash, rice, pasta, Ebly, salad ... that's about it, in terms of side dishes and, after over a month in confinement, with fewer food choices than usual and no trips to the fast food outlets or restaurants on the cards, we're all starting to get a bit bored of our meal options. I know from my group of weekly menu planners that I'm definitely not the only one feeling like this. Everyone's starting to get sick of cooking and eating the same things or trying to make something exciting out of the basic supplies in the cupboard and fridge. Well, Tigg's may well have the answer - don't worry about trying to revamp your repertoire of dishes. Jazz them up with a tasty, zingy sauce instead !

You do need to be careful though, as many sauces are heavy on the calories. In some cases, a couple of spoonfuls of dressing could have as many calories as a huge slice of chocolate cake, which doesn’t do our waistbands any favours ! Tigg's have come up with a great solution - the nation’s first fresh fruit and veg based dressings, made with nothing but natural ingredients.

If you love hot, zingy food, you will love Smokin’ Tomato & Chilli. Have a look at the salad - see those four mini dollops of sauce ? That is plenty, if you don't want to blow your socks off ! You can always add more, if you think you're hard enough, but for both me and Pierre, that was more than enough ! As well as a nice chilli kick, you get a warm, smoky flavour that makes even the blandest of foods taste good. It can be eaten on salads, stirred through rice or you can shake a few drops in your spaghetti sauce. As it says on the label, "I’m smoky, spicy and go with all foods nicely. Pair me with salad, roast veg or stir frys and await your tiggly surprise!". At just 26 calories per 15ml serving, you could add a dash to everything !

Next we went to the other extreme and tried Subtle Pepper & Mustard, a delicate  blend of yellow peppers and mustard. The label says : "I’m naturally sweet and subtle. I like to accompany salad on picnics in the park or cuddle up to a burger by a BBQ." On seeing the label, I was expecting a real hit of pepper, as in the spice, not the sweetness of yellow peppers, so I was pleasantly surprised by the mellowness of this one. It combines both Dijon & wholegrain mustard, along with a zing of cider vinegar, for some sweet but tart highlights. This is great as a salad dressing but is also lovely stirred through mash or drizzled over buttery boiled potatoes. At 19 calories per 15ml serving, this is the lightest option.

The final bottle - Bold Beetroot & Honey - was our least favourite, but maybe we just need to experiment with it a little more ! The rich, earthy undertones of the beetroot are brought to life with a dash of black pepper, while honey and apple bring in some sweetness. "I’m a fun and colourful character who likes to experiment. I'm partial to a sausage, rolling with rocket & smokin’ cheeses!" The beetroot brings not only a bold flavour but also some vitamins and antioxidants. At 39 calories per 15ml serving, this remains equally reasonable.

All Tigg’s dressings, based on 50-year-old family recipes, use only natural, fresh and unpasteurised ingredients. They have an RRP of £1.50 for a 160ml bottle and are available at Tesco.  For more information, visit https://tiggitup.co.uk
