Project 366 : Photo Diary Week 10

This week it was all about back to work/back to school and it was a crazy busy week in terms of extra meetings. Some of the teachers have had to take two weeks off due to visiting coronavirus-infested areas, so there were kids everywhere with no teachers to take them - nightmare ! Loads of extra meetings too, and my back was still hurting, after I put it out last week. Things can only get better !

Sunday 1st March - Today was a day of getting everything ready for going back to school. The house needs a good clean but my back is still too painful so it'll have to wait - grrr ! I did manage to catch up on the laundry though, so it could have been worse. Lunch couldn't have been simpler - a few chicken fillets, some stir-fry veg, some beansprouts, noodles and a jar of sweet & sour sauce. Very tasty though.

Monday - Monday morning is my nice and easy slide into the week. For once, I start at 10am so I don't have to leave home until 9am, after waving the kids off to school. Much better than the usual mad dash to the bus stop at 7am. I even got to appreciate the sun coming up today, as I drank my morning orange juice. Things could be worse ! A hectic day at school, working out how to deal with all the absent teachers (two off sick, one after injuring themselves on a skiing holiday, one with sick kids, plus two who are not allowed to come in due to coronavirus restrictions). Crazy !

Tuesday - On Tuesdays, I pop into the town centre to grab lunch with a couple of friends, rather than going to the school canteen. This time, the daffodils had finally decided to put in an appearance ! It's lovely to get such a welcome splash of colour, showing us that yep, spring is definitely on the way :) Quick, back to school for a meeting about a girl in one of my classes, who has various learning problems, to see what we can do to help her. Back home, sorting out dinner when Juliette arrived. Not happy as they were due to go on a school trip to Paris next week and the headmaster has just cancelled all trips, due to coronavirus. Awww !

Wednesday - There's no school on Wednesday afternoons in France, but this week I had a meeting - grrr ! After packing off Juliette with her friends (for a shopping/cinema trip) and waiting for Pierre to get picked up for a birthday party at a local bowling alley, it was my turn to grab a bus into the town centre and go to the new library, where they have big rooms with computer access/big screens/tables and chairs for meetings. Being in such a colourful, well-designed area makes it seem less of a chore somehow !

Thursday - Another busy day at school. In the morning, I had all my usual lessons, then in the afternoon, my first lesson was cancelled because there was supposed to be the nurse coming in to run an evaluation of a recent project about breakfasts. Talking to one of the other teachers, when he had the same thing at the start of the week, she didn't show up, so I planned ahead, organising a class just in case. Just as well as there was no sign of her - I bet next week, she'll put in a surprise appearance when she realises she missed them all ! After school, off to another meeting for coordinating the help put in place for the pupil from Tuesday, with all the external help (speech therapist, specialised teacher, various other teachers plus me, as her form teacher). Back home and it was STILL light enough to enjoy the blue skies for a while - a big change from before the holidays and much appreciated.

Friday - My morning off, just me and the dog at home ! Catching up on paperwork before dashing off to school for the afternoon. My back is finally easing up - woohoo ! Hurting much less and I'm sleeping better. Thank goodness for that !

Saturday - After a surprise lunch with the grandparents (from Brittany, an eight hour drive away - they phoned to say they'd come up to go to the cemetery as it is two years since Madhouse Daddy died, so we went to a Chinese restaurant with them before they headed home), I did a quick bit of tidying up then went to a local furnishings shop that Juliette desperately wanted to go to, then did the shopping. Back home, I took advantage of the drier weather to pull off all the ivy that had grown up the side of the house. There was a whole bin bag full of it - compare with the photo from Thursday. It grows up so fast. After sorting out the laundry, then some food and finally settling down to watch some TV, I realised I'd overdone it and my back was starting to hurt again - oops ! I'd been so careful not to overdo it all week too ! :-/ Definitely time for a lazy day tomorrow.

  1. Oh no! What a busy week for you at work. It sounds a real nightmare with all the missing teachers. I hope they are all OK. The 10am start sounded a good way to start the week. I hope your back starts to feel better soon x

  2. Two years already?! I remember when you first mentioned your tragic news. You're a strong woman, and I admire you.
Hope your back hurts less, I missed last week's instalment, so not sure how you managed to hurt it (will check it out tomorrow). The 10am start sounds just about right. You dog is so cute.
The ivy spreads like fire, and ruins the stone walls.

    1. As far as I know, we're coronavirus-free. The government has been cancelling all events with over 1000 people, including the latest Dunkirk carnival balls - very unpopular move !

  5. gosh a lot of things going on, maybe not a bad idea with the anniversary of Madhouse Daddy, sending loving hugs to you all.
Sounds inconvenient with so many teachers off school. but can fully understand why.
Shame the school trip has been cancelled, I bet she was looking forward to it.

  6. Sorry to hear about the school trip being cancelled due to the coronavirus and it sounds like it's been busy having to juggle the absences as a result of it too. Glad that the grandparents were able to come over and come to the cemetery for Madhouse Daddy's two year anniversary. That's a tough milestone. Sending hugs your way. #project366

  7. How lovely for the grandparents to make the drive for the anniversay, hope having them with you, made the day easier for you to get through. A wednesday afternoon off school sounds good, shame about the meeting and well done on planning for the nurse

    1. Wednesday afternoon off is great - especially as school goes on later here, so it gives me time to dash to the shops or run to appointments !
