Did you spot my giveaway yesterday for Carlton Kids Rainbow Origami book? As I mentioned, it's a great project for keeping kids of all ages occupied during the summer holidays, and today I have another fabulous giveaway for a fun activity with the kids - a 3D Jungle Animal Masks book.
It's designed by Steve Wintercroft - you may remember a few months ago, we reviewed his 3D Fox Mask book, which was great fun to make and ended up on display in Sophie's room after Pierre had finished wearing it.
This book contains four animal masks to make - a parrot, chimp, an elephant and a tiger. As with the fox book, you get step-by-step illustrated instructions to help you know what to stick where. It's not overly complicated, once you work out what goes where, but I would say that their half an hour per mask guideline is slightly optimistic, especially if making them with children !
The great thing is, no scissors are required and there is no precise cutting as all the pieces just need to be pressed out then folded and stuck in place. The instructions say to use glue or tape but I would definitely go with tape because glue takes too long to dry and, on the off-chance that you stick a piece in the wrong place or folded the wrong way, it is easier to correct your mistake with tape.
If you like to give your fun summer holiday activities an educational twist, this would be a fabulous starting or ending point of a research project on jungle animals. (Sorry - can you tell I'm a teacher ?!)
