2-year-old Pierre has suddenly taken a real interest in books. He's always liked listening to me reading him stories but recently has started getting more involved, pointing out things in the pictures and making comments or adding sound effects ! He got all excited when we received a pile of books to review recently so look out for lots more children's book reviews coming up. The latest book of choice was One Kiss, One Hug ! by Jason Chapman.
The book tells the story of Ben the baby bear who can't manage to get to sleep and keeps calling his increasingly annoyed mum and dad back for one more kiss and one more hug ... until he finally falls asleep cuddling his sister. Altogether now, awwwww !
Pierre (like most kids, I would imagine) went through a phase of waking up and calling "Mummmmyyyyy" until I went to see him with gritted teeth so that he didn't wake up his sisters, so he giggled every time Ben called his parents and I said "like Pierre used to do grrrrrr" ! He liked the different voices I used for Ben and his mum and dad and joined in with the grumbling, pointing at Daddy Bear and saying "grrrrrrr" !
It's also a great book for the girls to read, to remind them that siblings can actually share moments of complicity and mutual support, rather then constantly squabbling, which they seem to be doing a lot of recently.
The grown-ups will find it amusing too, as we can all relate to the bear parents' predicament. I love the way the daddy bear pigs all the ice cream while mummy bear goes off to tend to Ben as I could totally imagine that happening !
It's a lovely story offering great insight into the relationships within families and gorgeous illustrations to look at while you read. The kids have been reading it non stop since it arrived.
