Madhouse Diaries : Helping A Well-Travelled Geocoin On Its Way

Back at the end of June, we were delighted to discover our first trackable geocoin in a geocache near our home in Dunkirk, France.

This was where we found it - you can find out more about the location here.

It's rare to find caches this big in our part of France so it's been a bit complicated finding somewhere to drop it off. I decided it would be nice to take it with us on holiday to help it add some mileage to its travels.

This week, we went geocaching in my childhood stomping ground in Sussex, England, and we found the perfect place to drop it off on the edge of a cornfield.

This is on the 1066 Hastings Walk footpath, marking the famous Battle of Hastings.

I'm really looking forward to seeing how long it will stay in its new hiding place and, when I went to log its new location, I went to see where it's been so far. I was staggered - it's already travelled an incredible 17,835.3km !

It started its travels in Washington State, USA, but swiftly came to Europe, starting off in the South of France, then going through Belgium, the Netherlands, spending a long stint in Germany, then popping into the Czech Republic, going back to Germany, passing into Italy, going back to Germany AGAIN (!), across the French border into Alsace, then finally working its way up to the North of France where we found it. I'm delighted to have helped it find its way into a new country and am excited to see where it will go next.
