You may remember a few weeks ago, we reviewed a very impressive apple pie from Erlenbacher - it was moist, sweet, absolutely bursting with fruit and as good as anything I could have made at home, if not better. When they asked if we'd like to sample their festive offerings too, that was a total no-brainer - of course we would !
They sent through two of their culinary creations for us to sample - their Christmas Strawberry Vanilla Cake and Fruits of the Forest Tart - both of which would make a lovely light, fruity alternative to Christmas pudding to finish off your festive meals in style, if you want something a bit different.
The Fruits of the Forest Tart has a crispy shortcrust pastry base and is topped with strawberries, blackberries, blueberries and redcurrants. We had a bit of a giggle because we thought it was taking ages to defrost but it was actually the sprinkling of icing sugar on top making it look like it was still frozen ! The fruit offers a lovely combination of sweetness and tartness and I was impressed to see that it stayed whole, rather than dissolving into a soggy pulp as is sometimes the case with frozen fruit.
The Strawberry Vanilla Cake is also lovely - a light fluffy sponge sandwiched around bourbon vanilla and strawberry yogurt cream, topped with glazed strawberries and decorative white chocolate strips. It's as decadent and delicious as it sounds.
I was a bit surprised to see such summery-looking desserts in a wintry portfolio, but they were both a unanimous hit and definitely delicious whatever the time of year. Both of these desserts are part of Erlenbacher’s range of over 180 frozen baked goods.
