If you like gritty, surprising and thought-provoking drama, I highly recommend Moving On. I've just discovered series 5 and 6, out on dvd over the summer (in July and September), and I thoroughly enjoyed them both, despite not having seen the earlier seasons.
Created by multi award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern (Cracker), this critically acclaimed long running series features stand-alone episodes and with seven series to date, with an eighth in production. Moving On explores complex issues all linked by the common theme of characters who reach a turning point in life… and then move on.
Moving On Series Five arrives on DVD on 25th July 2016 and Moving On Series Six follows on 5th September 2016, courtesy of Simply Media, with Series Four currently available.
These hugely popular, thought provoking series were originally broadcast in 2013 and 2014 with five episodes each and cover a range of challenging themes including shoplifting, gambling, infidelity, terminal illnesses, broken families and even death, and one episode in series five was directed by RTS and British Comedy Award winner Johnny Vegas (Benidorm).
A wealth of well-known faces star, with series five featuring Natalie Gumede (Coronation Street), Lee Ingleby (The A Word), Amy Nuttall (Downton Abbey), Anita Dobson (Eastenders) and Jo Joyner (Eastenders). Series six stars Brian Capron (Coronation Street), Lisa Riley (Emmerdale), Graeme Hawley (Coronation Street), Charles Venn (Eastenders) and Neil Fitzmaurice (Peep Show).
