We've been having some beautiful weather lately, so I've been on a mission to get the kids away from their screens and into the fresh air. With perfect timing, we received a great new outdoor toy to put through its paces : Helix Sling Stix. Each pack contains a green and an orange stick with a suction pad on the end and a robust green ball.
The official blurb calls it an easy, fun sling-and-catch outdoor toy for ages 6+, which offers you an array of open-ended play options in one toy and allows you to throw the ball up to 30 feet. "Just sling it, stick it and sling it again! Players catch the ball with the super sticky cup and then use the trigger to release the ball and sling it away. Play with friends and family for fast-paced fun and impress each other with your trick shots."
Well, we didn't find it as easy as they make out and it took a fair few tries until we managed to get the ball to stick to the suction pads, both from the ground and when flying through the air, and even then it was a bit hit and miss. Nevertheless, the kids had great fun trying and spent ages flinging it across the big car park in front of our house !
How gratifying is it to see modern-day, tech-savvy kids getting outside for some good old fashioned fun with a ball? They burnt off loads of energy, had lots of giggles and didn't look at their phones once !
Once he'd finished charging about like a loony, throwing it miles like a superhero (in his words) and getting hot and sweaty, Pierre also discovered that you can look through the ball to see the world in green or hold it just away from your face to get photos of yourself looking like Shrek or The Grinch !
Ages: 6+
Players: 2+
RRP: £14.99
Stockists: Smyths, Argos and Amazon
