Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Wine Cooler review

"In the cooler - now !" Yes, I'm watching an episode of Waterloo Road as I type and the comment made me smile as it could equally apply to the Vacu Vin Rapid Ice Wine Cooler that I was sent to review.

The name Vacu Vin sounds quite high tech so I was expecting some impressive gadget like those handwarmers with the little button to press that triggers a chemical reaction to instantly generate heat, except this time making the temperature drop. But no ... it's actually a lot simpler than that.

It's a sleeve to keep in the freezer like one of the blue bricks for cool bags that you put over a bottle to chill it. It takes just five minutes for the bottle and drink to chill but keeps them cool for hours, which is great news if you're planning a picnic - there's nothing worse than tepid wine to go with your soggy sandwiches ! (Actually there is - tepid wine with a fly doing backstroke in it, but I digress !) It's also handy as a protective sleeve to prevent the bottle getting broken in transit.

It's also really convenient for those times when you've forgotten to chill the white wine (or ended up drinking more than you expected !) and you need to get it nice and cold quickly. You could just put the bottle directly in the freezer but I'm always worried it will explode or crack, so this is a safer option, as well as a quicker one.

The coolers are available in a variety of sizes but also designs. The manufacturers say that they are not only reusable but also unbreakable. They do seem very resistant so this should hopefully be the case.

For those drinks that you can't instantly chill by serving them over ice, this is a brilliant gadget for being the hostess with the mostest and always having perfectly chilled white wine (or Shloer, for the kids!) at your dinner party, even when it totally slipped your mind !
