Having trawled through the local what's on guide, I'd spotted that there was a village fête going on in a nearby town so we headed over to have a look. It was very small but there were a few activities that the kids enjoyed (except for Sophie, who did the perfect bored teenager routine for the whole time we were there !). Apparently we'd just missed the falconry display but the birds were still out on display.
I have no idea what types of bird they were but they all looked very majestic. I love the huge owl with its big sleepy-looking eyes. It even yawned just as I took the photo !
Keeping on the medieval theme, the next stop was the bouncy castle.
Followed by the very un-medieval basketball hoops !
We skipped the displays going on on the stage and spent our time queuing up for Pierre to have a pony ride instead. That was all that was on offer but we couldn't complain because it was all totally free.
Swapping one trusty steed for another, we called into a sports shop on the way home and bought a new bike for Pierre's birthday, as his old one is now much too small.
It's much bigger than the old one but he took to it like a duck to water, shooting off around the car park without once falling off. Seven years old on Sunday - where does the time go ?!
Shame you missed the Falcon display
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great day out
Well, it was more exciting than sitting at home in front of the telly ! lol :)
DeleteLooks like great fun for younger people, I can see why Sophie was not impressed. :)
ReplyDeleteShe was making me laugh having a strop in the pony queue because she said she had "other more important stuff to be doing than standing in a queue for a 5-minute pony ride" ... ummm like taking to her friends on facebook and playing on the ipad ?!! lol ;-)
DeleteLooks like you had lots of fun, do love looking up close at birds of prey #CountryKids
ReplyDeleteWe've seen falconry displays before but I'd never seen such a wide range of birds - some of them I'd never seen before and the owl was very cute.
DeleteLooks like you all had a great day, despite the strop! ;-)

LOL All par for the course with a teenager in tow ! :)
DeleteI do like to support local free events like this and who wouldn't enjoy a bouncy castle and a pony ride even if you did have to queue. Those birds look most impressive and at least you got to see them if not the display. Birthday to Pierre and I hope he has many hours of outdoor fun with his new bike.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing with me on #CountryKids
I can't keep him off it - I think he'd sleep with it if he could ! lol
DeleteLooks like a lovely local event & its free! My son would probably stay in the bouncy castle the whole day if he can haha. Its his fave!
ReplyDeleteThat bike looks awesome! And Happy Birthday to Pierre!

You certainly can't beat a free event ! :)
DeleteWe recently attended a free that had a medieval theme to it too, must be the theme of the season
ReplyDeleteI think you're right - I've seen another one advertised for September !
DeleteHappy Birthday to Pierre! Looks like a fun little event. My son still enjoys bouncy castles and would have loved getting to see those birds up close and personal. Thanks for sharing.
