Picture Book review : Princess Poppy - The Royal Parade - Janey Louise Jones

However young they are, kids can't have failed to notice that the Queen is on the telly an awful lot these days and that Union Jacks are springing up all over the place. Well, what better time to pull out a royal-themed book for them to enjoy ? The Madhouse mini-testers were over the moon when a copy of the Princess Poppy book called The Royal Parade arrived for us to review.

Pierre was delighted to discover the little envelope at the beginning, containing a letter from Princess Poppy with a fab idea for making bunting. I love this little touch which makes it extra special, as you can see from Pierre's face.

The story tells a fun tale of Princess Poppy trying to help out getting everything ready for the fancy dress parade - this time with a royal theme - but getting constantly side-tracked because she's just too excited about wearing her posh frock ! The story has lots of brightly coloured illustrations to look at and a good life-lesson about the importance of keeping promises.

With mentions of a royal fancy dress parade, the Honeypot Hill Olympics and a street party, this is the ideal book for reading over the Jubilee weekend with the kids or for keeping as a fun souvenir of the big day.

As a Jubilee treat, Random House have dropped the price of the brand new Princess Poppy Picture Books app (that I reviewed here) to just 69p! Offer ends June 11though so get in quick !

  2. Looks like a fab book & very topical too for the Jubilee celebrations. I won a book called The Queen's Knickers the other day on Pinterest. :)

  4. I love Princess Poppy - I think perhaps at 10 my daughter is slightly too old to justify buying this one! Perhaps my younger son would enjoy it just as much - I can only hope.
