Online retailer Liberty Trading recently got in touch and asked if we'd like to review something from their range of quirky gift ideas. It was a company I'd never heard of so I popped over for a look and couldn't believe how many things we spotted that appealed to us. I was also highly impressed at the number of items that we'd never seen elsewhere, so if you're looking for funky, functional and above all original ideas for gifts or homeware items, it's definitely a great place to start. Have you ever seen upside down wine glasses or plasma ball bluetooth speakers elsewhere, for example ?! As we've started spring cleaning and decluttering, I decided to opt for a folding ottoman which can be used as a storage box and a seat.
It comes flat pack but is extremely easy to assemble. It is made of plastic and measures 36cm x 36cm x 36cm, which is smaller than I expected so I was a bit dubious about how much weight it would withstand. It's actually very sturdy though and is designed to hold up to 30kg of weight inside the box and a sitting weight of up to 70kg.
This is the perfect accessory to fit in with Sophie's London-themed room and she's using it to hide away stacks of unsightly school books and papers.
They have other designs available too - I love the bright colours and iconic status of this Rubik's cube one.
And, after our recent trip to the local science museum and planetarium, we loved the look of this solar system one too. They all retail at £22.99.
If you fancy giving your child's room a planet-themed makeover, we also loved the look of this Aurora Northern & Southern Lights Projector (£28.99). As seeing the real Northern Lights is on my bucket list, I love this idea. It can be used as a child's night light or for mood lighting and I can imagine it would be quite relaxing watching the colours dancing across the ceiling.
This funky 3d deco light (£31.99) made us laugh too because the light, in the shape of a football, comes with a wall sticker that makes it look as if it has smashed through the wall. I could see this looking great in a soccer-mad boy's bedroom !
This is just a small selection of the items they have on offer though and there are things to suit all tastes, if you want something more classic. I've bookmarked the site to come back to for those hard-to-buy for people at Christmas and birthdays. (Or Father's Day come to that - aha!)
