Bonds recently got in touch to share the results of a survey they have carried out into how the sweet-toothed British nation gets its sweetie fix. The results actually made me feel pretty good about my sweet-munching habits because over a third of the 2,000 people surveyed admit to buying sweets every day !
The research also found that over 70% of people now buy some of their sweets in the supermarket, as part of their weekly shop, with less than 25% choosing to visit their local convenience store or newsagent. Another 18% buy their sweet treats from discount retailers whilst 14% pick up their confectionery at the same time as filling up with petrol.
Well, now there's a new way of buying your sweets because Bonds have opened an online store which, I was pleased to notice, offers free delivery on UK orders over £5. You can even pay with paypal (amongst other options). The webstore has a choice of over 450 sweet ranges, from bagged chocolates such as the indulgent Honeycomb, Caramel Barrels and Chocolate Mix to the ever popular sweet shop range which offers traditional lines like Sherbet Lemons, Fruit Jellies and Chocolate Limes. Also on offer is the hugely popular Retro Classics bag and an extensive range of kid’s sweets such as Fizzy Cola Bottles, Teeth & Lips and Dolly Mixtures.
They sent us through a Retro Classics bag which I generously shared out with the Madhouse Mini-testers. In our bag, we got a mini tube of Love Hearts, 4 packs of Fizzers, 4 packs of Parma Violets (which I can never help eating, despite knowing full well that I really don't like them much !), a fizzy lolly, 4 Drumstick lollies, 2 Blackjacks (nasty things - Madhouse Daddy is the only one who likes them !), a Refreshers chewy sweet and - my favourite so I pinched them all ! - three Fruit Salad chews. That's a grand total of 20 sweets for a bag costing £1, which I guess isn't bad value, although I do remember back in my childhood when these were penny sweets and you could get a big bagful at the sweetshop with 20p on the way home from school ! Those were the days !
