10-year-old Sophie is a HUGE Jacqueline Wilson fan. She has a big collection of her books, in both English and French, and she's read all of them at least once. She doesn't know yet but she also has a copy of Sapphire Battersea, the follow-up to Hetty Feather, waiting to go in her Christmas stocking. Her love of all things Jacqueline Wilson started out when she watched Tracy Beaker on TV, so when the opportunity came up to review the We Love Tracy Beaker app on the ipad, I knew she'd be very chuffed.
Unlike many of the licenced character apps that we've been reviewing lately (from the likes of Postman Pat, Tinga Tinga Tales and Peppa Pig, amongst others), the Tracy Beaker app is aimed at tweens rather than pre-schoolers. It has a grown-up feel to it which will appeal to tween girls who can't wait to become teens and stop being classed as little girls ! They'll love using the Calendar, Planner and Address Book to keep all their "secret" and "important" information in one place.
But even "grown-ups" like to play and the app also offers a selection of seven mini-games that are simple but surprisingly addictive. You can play :
• TRACY'S MAKE-OVER – create your own avatar. Change face and body shape, hair style and colour and makeup!
• TRACY'S WORD SEARCH – find a fun list of words hidden in a grid of letters before time runs out!• TRACY'S DAYDREAM DOODLES – create fun scenes by dragging familiar icons onto a selected background. Save doodles and view them at any time!
• TRACY'S TRIVIA QUIZ – answer hundreds of multiple choice trivia question. Plus have fun making up your own questions and answers!
• TRACY'S MATCH 3 GAME – Match 3,4 or 5 shapes in a row or column to score as many points as you can in 60 seconds!
• TRACY'S SCRATCHIES – scratch off 3 matching symbols and you may unlock an exclusive feature in one of the Tracy Beaker games or activities. Play every day to unlock new hidden fun!
• TRACY'S MAGIC ORB – Ask Tracy a question and then give the magic orb a shake to reveal a magical answer!
Sophie has been having great fun playing with the app and also loves the fact that, as it requires a good level of reading, she is the only one who can play this game (not counting the Madhouse adults, of course !) so this is exclusively her game.
I was also very impressed to see that it's available at a bargain introductory price of 69p so get in quick if you want it !
