Elias Super Wipes for stain removal on-the-go (review)

Do you have a mucky pup in your house? Someone who always manages to get a blob of ketchup on their trousers or dribble chocolate milk down their T-shirt? Have you noticed that this always happens (or you always notice) just as you need to rush out of the door and it always ends up with frantic dabbing with the washing up sponge (which leaves a big wet patch) or even more frantic rummaging for clean clothes to change into? Even worse is when your child squeezes their juice or fruit pouch too hard when you're out and about and gets covered in it or if you spill soup on your top at the canteen during your lunch hour.

Well, if that sounds like you, you might want to invest in a pack of Elias Super Wipes, dubbed "First Aid for Removal of Food & Drink Stains". They're stain wipes for clothes that can be used on coloured and white fabrics and that promise to effectively remove wine, fruit juice, baby food, coffee, tea, yogurt and most other food stains immediately on contact.

The instructions say that for best results, you should use them as soon as the stain is discovered and the stains will start disappearing before your eyes. Put a piece of cloth behind the stain (a tissue or napkin will do) and rub the wipe on the stain in a circular motion then leave for 10 minutes before repeating the process if it's a difficult stain. I was a bit worried about the warnings (do not use on fabrics that can't be bleached, test a spot that can't be noticed on delicate fabrics) but I used it on a white T-shirt (strawberry jam) and a coloured tie (coke) and both stains disappeared without leaving any marks (just a small wet patch that soon dried out).

I usually find that most stains - even difficult ones like red wine or beetroot - will come out if you can wash the offending article immediately, but that isn't always possible, especially if you're eating out, at a picnic or at someone else's house. Elias Super Wipes are great in an emergency if you can't get to a tap or a washing machine or if you're wearing a special item of clothing that you haven't got a replacement for. (Hands up if you've ever spilt red wine on your wedding dress (or had someone else do it) at your wedding reception !) They are a lot more expensive than regular wipes - £2.99 for a pack of 5 - but they are more effective too and if they help you extend the life of your favourite clothes, they are a sound investment. I've been keeping them in my coat pocket for whenever anyone spills food on them during our trips out and they always manage to save the day.

  1. I've not heard about these before, but they're a fantastic idea and very handy to keep in your bag.
