Madhouse diaries : Lazy Crazy Summer Days !

It was such a beautiful day on Sunday that, after tucking into our first barbecue of the year (yay !), we decided it was far too nice to stay indoors and headed off to the town centre, where there was an ArtCubus pop-up festival going on in the main town square. We weren't sure what to expect but as soon as we arrived, we saw a fire-eater dressed as Beetlejuice which set the tone !

The mobile festival uses a variety of recycled buses, lorries and caravans to transport everything. We were greeted by a London bus that had been kitted out with DJ tables and speakers as a party zone !

There was a second double decker bus that has been transformed into a mobile pizza restaurant. Sophie wanted a Nutella pizza but we weren't hungry enough so I've promised to try making one at home.

Wandering around, we saw a man making enormous bubbles.

Pretty impressive but it's all in the equipment because we managed this ourselves last year ! (Look here if you don't believe me !)

We had a play with some of the old-fashioned games that were out on display.

This one was designed to test your strength.

There was also an area for testing a variety of weird and wonderful bikes and scooters, such as this one with wobbly wheels. Another one had an off-centred axle so it went up and down as the wheels went round.

Or this strange contraption, half unicycle half skateboard ?!

The girls had never seen a penny farthing before so they were impressed.

There's enough room for Daisy Daisy and half of her friends on this bicycle made for four !

Juliette had a go on this scooter with pedal power.

But things were about to get even stranger ... look out for part two to see what had us giggling our socks off for the rest of the day !

  1. What a fun event, I love all the bicycles, mine took a silly cycle challenge at a steam fair recently and failed totally! Lots of fun and I can't wait to read the next part now! Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.
